Buddy letters are supposed to be eye witness accounts by virtue of their MOS, the fact the Buddy(s) were in same unit as the veteran requesting the buddy statement, at same time, same place.

They should be detailed as to exactly what they witnessed ,involving your stressor, and they should give the VA their full contact info.

My daughter helped 5 vets who were all at the same stressor....Actually she helped four of the--as the fifth vet gave them all copy of his VA award letter for PTSD to explain that this was the very same stressor they had  all experienced. They also got,per my daughter's help, new awards that were not on their DD 214s/215.

One got the Distinguished Flying Cross. And they also got awards for SC PTSD.

This all involved more than buddy letters however, as the awards were generated by a Vietnamese document she translated for them.

Have you checked your STRs and Personnel records for any evidence of the assault or treatment for it?
