I found some claims for this condition at the BVA, but the ones I read  were all denied...unfortunately none of the vets had obtained an IMO/IME.

Not only is ischemic heart disease, an atherosclerotic condition as within this pdf:

https://www.med.umich.edu/1info/FHP/practiceguides/cad/IHDshort.pdf

This shows ( from a good source)what can cause this condition.

(People with atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries) are also more likely to develop BRVO.)

I dont know how VA would rate this.....do you have major loss of vision in the affected eye?

I would file it as secondary to the IHD ( and to DMII if you have that) but you might well need an IMO/IME.

I assume this condition was diagnosed after the IHD was.

"Who Is At Risk for Branch Retinal Vein Occlusion (BRVO)?

Dec. 11, 2013

BRVO is associated with aging and is usually diagnosed in people who are aged 50 and older. High blood pressure is commonly associated with BRVO.

In addition, people with diabetes are at increased risk for BRVO. About 10 percent to 12 percent of the people who have BRVO also have glaucoma. People with atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries) are also more likely to develop BRVO.

The same measures used to prevent coronary artery disease may reduce your risk for BRVO. These include:

  • eating a low-fat diet;
  • getting regular exercise;
  • maintaining an ideal weight; and
  • not smoking."

 This vet did have his BRVO servie connected but I dont know what the rating was.

Do you have glaucoma?

The appeal was for secondary glaucoma.

"THE ISSUE

Entitlement to service connection for bilateral glaucoma, to include as secondary to service-connected branch retinal vein occlusion (BRVO) in the left eye.
ORDER

Entitlement to service connection for bilateral glaucoma is granted.

https://www.va.gov/vetapp14/Files6/1451916.txt

here is another one I found:

"ORDER Service connection for left ear hearing loss is granted. Service connection for tinnitus is granted. Service connection for right eye BRVO is granted. Service connection for a right eye disability (other than BRVO and diabetic retinopathy) is denied. Service connection for ulcers is denied. An initial compensable rating for the service-connected diabetic retinopathy is denied."

https://www.va.gov/vetapp10/Files6/1043247.txt

This is a very long case. I have no time to read it now. They granted for the BRVO but I dont have time to read why they did. By using BRVO at the BVA search site you might find more that would help.

Here is my search link:
