I cannot answer individual claims questions. All VA Claims questions should be posted on our forums. Read the forums without registering, to post you must register it’s free. Register for a free account

Some Tips from one of our members on posting on the forums.

1. Post a clear title like ‘Need help preparing PTSD claim’ or “VA med center won’t schedule my surgery” instead of ‘I have a question’.

Knowledgable people who don’t have time to read all posts may skip yours if your need isn’t clear in the title. I don’t read all posts every login and will gravitate towards those I have more info on.

2. Use paragraphs instead of one huge, rambling introduction or story. Again – You want to make it easy for others to help. If your question is buried in a monster paragraph there are fewer who will investigate to dig it out.

Leading to:

3. Post clear questions and then give background info on them.

Example is:

A. I was previously denied for apnea – Should I refile a claim?

I was diagnosed with apnea in service and received a CPAP machine but claim was denied in 2008. Should I refile?

B. I may have PTSD- how can I be sure?

I was involved in traumatic incident on base in 1974 and have had nightmares ever since, but I did not go to mental health while enlisted. How can I get help?

This gives members a starting point to ask clarifying questions like “Can you post the Reasons for Denial from your claim?” etc.

Note: Your firsts posts on the board may be delayed before they show up, as they are reviewed, this process does not take long and the review requirement will be removed usually by the 6th post, though we reserve the right to keep anyone on moderator preview. This process allows us to remove spam and other junk posts before they hit the board. We want to keep the focus on VA Claims and this helps us do that.

Correct.  I have only a limited time to answer questions.  And, I have expertise in some areas, not so much in others, and have to choose which questions to answer, I can not answer them all.  Here is how I choose:

1.  I look for posts like, "What would my effective date be"?  or "Is this a CUE?"  I usually dont anwer "How long" questions because nobody really knows..Va will take as long as they see fit.

2. I rarely answer questions that are like, "I need help".  We know you need help, but be more specific, we are not gonna mail you money.

3.  Even if its a question outside of my expertise, such as widows benefits, I may chime in and try to get Bertas attention (she is the widows benefits expert)..

Thanks Tbird and thank you Broncovet but it would help for every vet to get up to speed enough on DIC to start the Death File I mention here and did some radio shows on.

Their spouse will need to be able to use the internet as well, and our hadit link should be in the Death File for them.

I have a topic in the DIC forum to Read First before posting DIC questions.

If you have followed a recent DIC situation here, you can see how difficult it has been to figure out the circumstances.

I too am pressed for time and look for posts with enough info in them to be able to take the time to  try to help.

I am so glad we have the attachment feature because it is the exact verbiage VA states on paper that is what reveals why they denied.

Many here don't realize that I and others here  double check every regulation we mention here and do a lot of google searching before we reply to some of the posts here.

I spend more time off the board than on it ,searching google or the VA or the BVA for info to help with many of the posts I reply to.

One post I made in the DIC forum recently took me about 2 hours to double check the big landmines I saw in the type of claim they had filed. Landmines being the rationale the VA could use right off the bat, to deny.
