10 percent evaluation may be assigned for hypertensive
vascular disease (hypertension and isolated systolic
hypertension) with diastolic pressure predominantly 100 or
more, or; systolic pressure predominantly 160 or more, or;
minimum evaluation for an individual with a history of
diastolic pressure predominantly 100 or more who requires
continuous medication for control. A 20 percent disability
evaluation is assigned with diastolic pressure predominantly
110 or more, or; systolic pressure predominantly 200 or more.
A 40 percent disability rating is in order with diastolic
pressure predominantly 120 or more; and 60 percent with
diastolic pressure predominantly 130 or more. 38 C.F.R.
§ 4.104, Diagnostic Code 7101.

Note (1) to Diagnostic Code 7101 provides that hypertension
or isolated systolic hypertension must be confirmed by
readings taken two or more times on at least three different
days. For purposes of this section, the term hypertension
means that the diastolic blood pressure is predominantly 90
mm. or greater, and isolated systolic hypertension means that
the systolic blood pressure is predominantly 160 mm. or
greater with a diastolic blood pressure of less than 90 mm.
38 C.F.R. § 4.104.

Where there is a question as to which of two evaluations
shall be applied, the higher evaluation will be assigned if
the disability picture more nearly approximates the criteria
required for that rating. Otherwise, the lower rating will
be assigned. 38 C.F.R. § 4.7 (2009). When there is an
approximate balance of positive and negative evidence
regarding the merits of an issue material to the
determination of the matter, the benefit of the doubt in
resolving each such issue shall be given to the claimant.
38 U.S.C.A. § 5107(b) (West 2002 & Supp. 2009); 38 C.F.R. §

If they service connect it, it will be rated at 0% as it is controlled by medicine.  I am SC's at 0% for hypertension.  You might get a 10% rating, but I doubt it.

This is a good thing.  Not bad.

Once you are rated for hypertension, then claim heart disease secondary to your hypertension.  If your HBP has caused any additional damage, you can get rated for that.  The VA will not search for or make any assumpions on there own.  I found that out.

I claimed heart disease secondary to my 0% rated HPB and was awarded 30% for enlarged left ventricle (by x-ray).

The x-ray showing the enlarged left ventricle was from 2008 when I claimed HPB.  Only after I found out from this site that HBP and heart disease are seperate, did I file for heart disease secondary to HPB and won in 2016.  If I knew in 08 what I know now, I would have had another 30% for the last 8 years.

The VA does not volunteer any of this info, so remember, you are on your own.

And this site of course,

Hamslice

Bayshore I'm not sure what the basis is for your question. You have tagged onto a posting 4 years old. In the future, start a brand new question/post. Examiners are not making any final decisions on your claim; they are assembling facts to present to the rater. They can't tell you what the decision is regarding if you are approved or what rate you will get. I've had them tell me if the facts as presented/discovered are service-connected or not. If they say yes, then getting a copy of their completed DBQ would give you a very strong idea where your rating should be if the rater
