lp1067: Hello, Great question and the answer will vary based on the "Category" of your claim (ie: PTSD...) the particular components of your claim ( ie: Secondary issues if it is an initial claim or an appeal) The VA system uses "tracks".... since 2011 or so - meaning all PTSD's go to one "track" another "track would be Back issues, another would be Knee. You did state "appeal" so more information is needed to completely answer the question.

It will also depend on you Regional Office ( RO) and how timely they are processing the claims.

I find the "Monday Morning Reports" at VA.gov help give a perspective on how long claims are taking to process in your area.

http://www.benefits.va.gov/reports/detailed_claims_data.asp

1.Look at the area you live in on the chart.

2. Then locate the type of your claim- in your case "appeals" then look to the right on the chart and this estimate is in "days" as in 625 .... This is also helpful because it lets you know how many other claims are being processed at the same time as in 329,000 - Don't let that scare you... I love a challenge!  :)
