Question

Hey everyone I am new to this and I just filed my claim for PTSD/mst claim in january 2017 and I have been so stress out because I have been reading about claims being denied and low balled and such. My question is i just received my C&P exam which was done by VES. I got a copy of it from my Marine Core League organization. I had a question as to the exam results it says I am occupational and social impairments deficiencies in most area. and then it list the systems which I have symptoms from 70 50 and 30 percent and they are equal to each other. I am confused does that mean they are going to give me the 30 rating because there is no one percent more than another. I guess how can you be deficiencies in most area when I have symptoms from each percent. the exams stated that ptsd and mdd are aggravated from the military services. I guess do i not quality for the 70 or is pretty rare to be in 70 do you have to more on the 70 to be rated at that.

he checked depressed mood, anxiety, near continuous panic or depression affecting the ability to function independently, flatten affect, disturbance motivation and mood, difficulty in establishing and maintaining effective work and social relationship, and inability to establish and maintain effective relationship. but he put me under the MDD recurrent severe, and mst. could someone please let me know what they think.

thanks

tai

what is that. i am working but don't work a lot of days because of depression and panic attacks. I am concern because i hear you have to be unemployable to even be consider for 70 and so kinda makes me stress that.

I hate when people say a lot of people are taking hand out. and I feel that if i get 70 that i am taking someones benefit that deserve it. on the other hand I feel i deserve it because I can't keep a steady job and don't really have a life that means something to me. I know some of the people I have talked to outside of military world thinks that I am milking the system and it hurts to know people really think that. I mean I am not 100 disable I can work but have days that i just can't get up to do anything. I have read a lot more veterans are not getting what they deserve and it just kinda sound like i am trying to be greedy to get to 70.

Tai,

Hey man, hope you're doing okay today. My disclaimer...I am but a humble man, uneducated and not overly bright either. So these are just my opinions....however I do have some life experiences that differ from most others, as you have as well.

IU = individual unemployabilty, means unable to work or work much due to the effects of your SCD and non-SCD alike. Such as in your case the effects of your ptsd makes it hard for you to go to work everyday.

Those that say you're looking for a handout are jealous OR ignorant to the truth. To help you with that you will have to do a few things...ignore them, if possible. Don't tell people about this. My twin brother made that mistake, even though he certainly earned his 100% . Certainly don't make a single comment EVER, about trying to get all you can. Most will take it to sound like milking the system and such. Now, that has no bearing on the truth of the matter...which is you know your own medical history and they don't. Even my own wife throws that in my face and I never ever made those kinds of comments, but my brother did.

You deserve the full benefit offered and allowed by law. Personally I think there should be a special category for MST survivors.

Tai, I am quite amazed that you were able to speak out to request that transfer, even tho it never went through. That took huge guts and courage and bravery. Wow!

Tai, I would like to share an online community that may be fit you outside of this one. It's called Pandora's Aquarium. It is the only online community for survivors of any type of sex based crime, where there is absolutely no victim shaming. It is totally anonymous and free. I have found it to be incredibly helpful. It's very much like hadit, in such that it is full of survivors that love and support each other in ways you can't even imagine. I know, as a guy, I felt completely and totally alone and invisible. But there, I am somebody.  Even here I am so often alone. I know most here just don't know, so I hold them blameless...Ms. Berta is a wonderful grand Dame, a true national treasure. Buck is just an awesome all around good guy. And Tbird.....well, she is the creator and founder of Hadit...'nuff said! There are so many good folks here on Hadit.

Anyway, hope something I said made sense somehow

Andy

That fact you said you have to take time off from work would show the need for IU. But keeping a job is the same thing to me I tried for 6 years and then 8 jobs later i seeked help and when i requested help from my employer they put me on medical hold from working for life. Still considered employed but was on unpaid leave forcing me to resign which is when I applied for IU and I was only at 90% 70% was just for my sTBI. Your only robbing yourself if you don't seek treatment it's no being greedy.

I just wanted to update everyone so after reading a lot of other claim and i started my claim back on january of this year. and i had a intent to file back in march of last year and so today i contact the va about the status of my claim and to my astonishment i was told that the va had close my claim. and they estimated time frame was for july 21 and from last week when i contacted them they had told me in was in decision phase and so i was assuming that would change from then but i was completely shock to hear it was close but than i thought well why did jump from decsion phase to close i thought it would have to wait the pending approval and so i contact my Rep to just to say they denied my result but it wasn't they said I was on the 80 I was very shock the first time around. I am pleased with the result and help calm so of my stress. I wish all vets could be that simple. I want to thank everyone for all their inputs on here. if i can help anyone please don't hesitate to contact me. I know i am no expert but would be willing to give my own experience thanks everyone

I am 70 percent P&T and on IU bringing me to the 100 percent rate.  I was working when I was awarded because my position is outside my industrial and academic background. I lost my position paying me 90 K a year several times I am highly intelligent but I have a hard time sometimes.   I think that I am actually 100 percent but have not been rated as such at this time and I will work to change this to 100 percent as time moves on.  The CFRs are really confusing and there are so many people that tell you that you cannot work when you have PTSD.  I can tell you with the internet, ability to work from home, and caring support that you can work.  I have family help me when I have trouble completing my work.  You can also write books, blogs, create products, etc. do things that help you make money when you are sleeping so if you are not able to work it is working for you. I also find it helpful to help others in my situation.  There is the term peer support specialist and coach. You can help people by sharing your coping skills and get paid.   Just because someone has no limbs does not mean that they cannot work.  The same is true for mental disabilities I mean everyone watched "A Beautiful Mind" right? How about the Hicks Bozeman.   To say that someone cannot work because of a disability is discriminatory and negligent in nature.  Especially PTSD!  Of course you can work you just have to find the right type of work for your disability and personality.  I tried not working and it made my symptoms worse. I need to feel like I am making a difference by helping in some way.  Hopefully together we can stop the people that are speaking from a place of opinion instead of personal experience or law.  Compensation is for the money you could have earned or a life that you could have enjoyed it is not income replacement like social security.  Also I had a Vietnam friend that worked his whole life.  He did pretty well for himself and many times the SWAT team would come to his house due to his illusions.  Work was great for him. It kept him sober and allowed him to burn off some steam on the farm and the community supported him. He eventually locked himself in his RV and lit it on fire.  At times Dennis was great other times not so much.  He did have consistent problems and work was a form of therapy.  Therapeutic work keeps all of us with PTSD from jumping off a bridge. I hope this helps!  All my love to all of you!
