lost family dental

Rate this question

Question

I understand that they are now etitled to Champ VA being P and T. But apparently we were only able to use the marketplace dental if I had an active health plan. When I canceled the healthcare out went the Delta pln. How does a family get dental insurance if I am covered health wise with ChampVA? Never looked at getting dental outside the marketplace but they informed me that I have too.

Not sure of your question but here is some info on the CHAMPVA Dental plan.

https://www.va.gov/healthbenefits/vadip/

CHAMPVA is solely for dependents who qualify.

I wish veterans had CHAMPVA!

Tomorrow afternoon the Blog radio show is with Glenn Johnson, of CHAMPVA and he is easy to talk to as to any CHAMPVA questions.

Did you fill out the Chapter 35 benefits form? when you got your 100% P&T Award letter? the forms should be included in your Packet

Spouse can fill them out for the family and  send them in  she can go to school and further her education VA will pay for it and use the VMC for General Health  or use private Dr's and Champva will pay up to75%  It maybe cost effective for you to get a supplemental Insurance to cover the 25% ChampVA don't pay...Wife uses Sellman Insurance for military retiree's and 100% Veterans  only for supplemental.

The dental Insurance with ChampVA   Don't pay for family dental  but they have two dental plans set up for veterans family's   Delta & Met-Life my spouse uses Met-Life depending on what dental work is to be done, how they  do the cost &  they will tell you how much you will need to pay  and then you decide , they do not cover cosmetic dental.  premium is about 54 $$ month-0 delectable  but the plan only pays a % of the procedure..be sure and check at the front office before the dental work is done  check on your cost!

you can get Full Dental at the VMC

Yeha kids are 3 years old  and  4 months old wife just graduated with her masters but of course it was prior to my P and T and now her school loan is about 24k. Family is all enrolled in ChampVA paid for the birth of my son. I called Metlife they said I had to wait until November o be covered on Dec.1. I didn't bother to check Delta dental I thought they may let me in early sine that's who I was with in the marketplace..yeha I definitely hate dental in my area its expensive almost charged my 3 year for cleaning her teeth with fluoride the hygienist just did it without asking.when they charged me I said you never asked me if it was ok I would have said no that stuff causes cancer and don't want it in her mouth ever again they apologized and reimbursed me...

If the P & T date covers some of her college dates, she might be eligible for a retro Chapter 35 amount.

I used Chap 35 due to my husband's last rating after his death (100% P & T for SC PTSD) but my eligibility date ran out so I had to pay for at least 6 thousand tuition without Chap 35, to finish my degree.

I didnt have a student loan so I dont know how that plays in to Chapter 35 and probably does not matter.....?

But the same year I enrolled into AMU I re opened my DIC claim ( the DIC had been under 1151 and no Chapter 35 provision)2003. When I succeeded in the re opened claim, it warranted a direct SC death, with a new eligibility date, so I requested a refund of all the tuition I paid out of pocket ,that came under the new eligibility date.

My school verified my tuition paid for the courses, that Chap 35 didnt cover at that point, and I sent VA Edu Dept a copy of my new award and then they sent me the exact amount (it might have been closer to 7-8 thousand), as a refund due to the new direct Service connected death award. AMU had a VA counselor who tied in with VA Educational Dept.It all took time. I graduated in 2007 but the direct SC award came in 2009, and the refund came about a few months after I requested it from the VA. I forget what regulations I used....if any.....

I got an Associates Degree Criminal Justice back in 1976-77 Went to community college  VA Paid for it with the G-I Bill  As long as I was making passing grades and kept going to class..I worked 7:00am till 4:00 pm then went home took shower and headed out to the college  classes from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm  I did this for over two years and went to summer classes...this was just though the G-I Bill Program

Had GPA 3.5  Made The Deans Honor Roll (yeah me)

This  was not chapter 35  I was not Service Connected or Rated Back then.

I got S.C. @ 0%1998 AND RATED 2002 FOR TDIU P&T

My last Award IN 2015 WAS 70% PTSD got me to the SMC S  & Final Degree OF 100% (Not Sure IU in Moot Now?)

Which they said I had additional benefit's  (Educational Allowances)  was one of them.....and I am suppose to be TDIU P&T  & a Separate rating for PTSD

Why do they give educational Allowances to TDIU  Vets?  when their S.C. Disability will not improve in their life time?

I think this is entrapment...Grrrrrrrrrrr

    • VA has gotten away with (mis) interpreting their  ambigious, , vague regulations, then enforcing them willy nilly never in Veterans favor.

They justify all this to congress by calling themselves a "pro claimant Veteran friendly organization" who grants the benefit of the doubt to Veterans.

      This is not true,

      Proof:

About 80-90 percent of Veterans are initially denied by VA, pushing us into a massive backlog of appeals, or worse, sending impoverished Veterans "to the homeless streets" because  when they cant work, they can not keep their home.  I was one of those Veterans who they denied for a bogus reason:  "Its been too long since military service".  This is bogus because its not one of the criteria for service connection, but simply made up by VA.  And, I was a homeless Vet, albeit a short time,  mostly due to the kindness of strangers and friends.

Hadit would not be necessary if, indeed, VA gave Veterans the benefit of the doubt, and processed our claims efficiently and paid us promptly.  The VA is broken.

A huge percentage (nearly 100 percent) of Veterans who do get 100 percent, do so only after lengthy appeals.  I have answered questions for thousands of Veterans, and can only name ONE person who got their benefits correct on the first Regional Office decision.  All of the rest of us pretty much had lengthy frustrating appeals, mostly having to appeal multiple multiple times like I did.

I wish I know how VA gets away with lying to congress about how "VA is a claimant friendly system, where the Veteran is given the benefit of the doubt".   Then how come so many Veterans are homeless, and how come 22 Veterans take their life each day?  Va likes to blame the Veterans, not their system.
    • Welcome to hadit!

There are certain rules about community care reimbursement, and I have no idea if you met them or not.  Try reading this:

      https://www.va.gov/resources/getting-emergency-care-at-non-va-facilities/

However, (and I have no idea of knowing whether or not you would likely succeed) Im unsure of why you seem to be so adamant against getting an increase in disability compensation.

When I buy stuff, say at Kroger, or pay bills, I have never had anyone say, "Wait!  Is this money from disability compensation, or did you earn it working at a regular job?"  Not once.  Thus, if you did get an increase, likely you would have no trouble paying this with the increase compensation.

However, there are many false rumors out there that suggest if you apply for an increase, the VA will reduce your benefits instead.

That rumor is false but I do hear people tell Veterans that a lot.  There are strict rules VA has to reduce you and, NOT ONE of those rules have anything to do with applying for an increase.

Yes, the VA can reduce your benefits, but generally only when your condition has "actually improved" under ordinary conditions of life.

Unless you contacted the VA within 72 hours of your medical treatment, you may not be eligible for reimbursement, or at least that is how I read the link, I posted above. Here are SOME of the rules the VA must comply with in order to reduce your compensation benefits:

      https://www.law.cornell.edu/cfr/text/38/3.344

    • Good question.

Maybe I can clear it up.

The spouse is eligible for DIC if you die of a SC condition OR any condition if you are P and T for 10 years or more.  (my paraphrase).

      More here:

      Source:

      https://www.va.gov/disability/dependency-indemnity-compensation/

NOTE:   TO PROVE CAUSE OF DEATH WILL LIKELY REQUIRE AN AUTOPSY.  This means if you die of a SC condtion, your spouse would need to do an autopsy to prove cause of death to be from a SC condtiond.    If you were P and T for 10 full years, then the cause of death may not matter so much.
