A Vet can apply for SC at any time.  Whether or not its awarded is another issue.  To increase your compensation over 100 percent, you need to meet the requirements for one or more "SMC's".

Since I dont know what your current ratings are, then its difficult to advise.

Example:  Lets say you are already 100 percent plus a seperate and distinct 50 percent.  This means you only need an additional 10 percent to get to "100 plus 60" percent for SMC S, which is about another 350 per month.

Example 2:

However, if you have no other disabilities other than your 100 percent, its unlikely you get an additional 60 percent (alone, seperate and distinct from your 100 percent) for pain only.  In this case, I probably would not go to the trouble to apply for the extra benefit of pain only.

Remember, "pain" may have already been compensated, so you cant get it again.  To find that out, you would need to read your medical records and Cfile.
