Question

so for the bigger picture when your PCP does not want to do anything  do you just go to the VA ER at hospital and make record that something is wrong?  Dr put in writing that we have done all the non-surgerical stuff i.e. braces pain creams napersyn, PT.... but you MUST LOOSE WEIGHT to qualify for surgery if its needed and to see the orthopod.

I can stand, move and my knee grinds and pops! also if it aches really bad for a day 8/10 pain day within a few days a brush will pop up on side of knee.

If you think your doc is not treating you properly, then the proceduare is to request a physician change.

The problem is ALL of VA docs I'm seeing have the same answer, oh you have a headache you need to loose weight and your headache will get better.  oh you have torn tendon in your wrist, if you loose weight it will be better and heres a bottle of ibuprofen.

This local VA is becoming a one trick pony for all the veterans I know being treated there loose weight and be healed of everything and god forbid if have taken an opioid for anything then you have chronic opioid use.

how do you get a different VA system?

Sorry to hear of your issues bud. The ERs wont do anything either, remember they do General Medicine, no specialists. There for they will just put you thru the ringer, and then tell you to ask your PCP to refer you out. If you are having alot of headaches, then ask PCP to refer to VA Neuro, if your wrist hurts, Refer to Ortho. The VA Docs cant argue with hard medical evidence like X Rays, Cat Scans and MRIs. I have had so many Brain and Body Scans and Blind Doc would know about all of my Medical Disabilities. Good luck to you and keep us posted. God Bless

It is supposed to start from the time you request or are referred for an appointment. If you do the math and it is over 30 days, request the Choice program. Don't count on them to proactively bring up the Choice program option, however I have had them bring it up a couple of times.

I have all that and PCP says we’ve done all we can, your not a candidate a better brace. But I sent my response from the company of the brace I want and they said I was a great candidate.

So I'm waiting for a response from PCP

The VA wont go off what Civilian companies state, remember they are there to make a sale. I can not tell you how many Companies claim to be able to help with my back issues, or My crohns disease especially. Also remember that the VA has an Approved List of Therapy, Docs and medical equipment that can be used for treatment. If what you are seeking is not on their list, good luck. God Bless

You probably explained pretty well why some Vets wont set foot inside a VAMC.  My  father in law, now deceased, finally signed up for local health care at his  VAMC.  He was told there was a waiting list for care, and they would call him when his name came up.  He died first, tho he had insurance and private care.
