ChampVA time line for reimbursement

fourpaws2@sbcglobal.net

Question

I submitted several requests, individually for medical bills and medication reimbursement to ChampVA over a month ago.

I haven't heard anything back from them. Can anyone tell me how long does it usually take to hear back from them? I thought

I would at least hear from them saying they received my requests.

Thanks,

T

I called the CHAMPVA toll-free hotline (see below). They said it takes around 30 days to process reimbursements. Realistically, I would assume that 30 days or less would be lucky and that it may take longer. You could always call and ask them for a status on your pharmacy claims.

Additionally, here is a link to the CHAMPVA pharmacy page

https://www.va.gov/COMMUNITYCARE/programs/dependents/pharmacy/index.asp

Their toll free number is as follows:

Quote

Phone:
800-733-8387
8:05 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. EST
Monday through Friday

If you call their 800 number you will find that they are several months behind. They state what month that they are opening mail for near the beginning of the recording.

Yep, they appear to always 1 to 4 months behind. If you talk to an agent, they will tell you save up the receipts and send them in every couple of months. This keeps the claims workload down and can help speed things up for everyone. However, if it is an expensive co-pay, I'd send it in asap just to get it into the queue.
