Benefits being taken away

Question

I have noticed lately that the VA has been sending out letters to Veterans taking away their benefits. The letter states that the VA feels that the Veteran is getting better. I have talked to numerous Veterans who have received this letter. Is this right ?

Whether its "right" or not is rather irrelevant.  Yes, the VA can reduce or take away your benefits, but you can ask for a hearing, and you can appeal an adverse decision.

If it happens to you, that is, if you get a proposal to reduce, then we can lead you to the "protections" Vets have after 5 years, 10 years and 20 years.

If you ignore the letter, then its a done decision, as in, non-contested. If you NOD it right off the bat then they can't reduce it until there is either more C and P's or until they finish adjudicating any new evidence you send in. Some veterans ignore the letter either through fear, frustration, or just not knowing any better, and in doing so cause their benefits to be reduced, even if they do have relevant information to the contrary. You HAVE to respond to that letter in some way.

I Agree with broncovet and brokensolider244th

Usually if you get a letter of proposal to reduce your benefits they usually tell you why  and most of the time its an opinion from a VA Dr  trying to pull his power over us vets   why? because they are in a position to control if we get out due benefits or not  so the Dr pulls this power crappola ..anyway after a vet receives this letter you have 60 Days to respond  and the best way in my opinion  as broncovet mention  request  a DRO Hearing  depending on what your S.C. Disability is   it may take a IMO TO REBUTE what ever this VA Dr mention to take away your benefits  we need medical proof from a qualified Dr to counter this VA Dr with his medical opinion  usually a specialist  will be better b/c there further trained and a good detail explantion of your medical condition in question, also you can sit and face the DRO (Decision Review Officer) and show him/her your Disability up close as it being Real  and your not faking it or exaggerating.

Sometimes a proposal to reduce back fires from the original Dr that reported it to the R.O. In the first place  if you get a specialist to give his honest and experience opinion on your condition and your condition is worse not better  then an increase is forthcoming.

O  -IF YOU NEVER RECEIVED A PROPOSAL TO REDUCE  DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT, WE CAN'T CONTROL WHAT OTHER VETERANS DO OR WHAT THEY GET IN THE MAIL, just because you heard something don't mean it will happen to you.
