I maybe a bit slow to respond, but I am here. I just wanted to catch you up what's going on in my world. Life is kind of sucking, but the bright spots are you guys and all my nieces and nephews. Working hard to get back to 100%. It is very stressful.

So last year I had to move out of my house into my nephews house because living alone was not working for me. Rented my house out and moved into my nephews, then I screwed up my knee and can't do the basement stairs at my nephews house, so I had to move to my sisters house. Waiting for an appointment with Ortho the soonest they can see me is June 17 I asked to be sent into the community and they approved it but haven't heard back from them with a appointment. So now I got to get rid of my house because I can't afford it and rent at my sisters. My knee aches all the time and I am using a walker it's a real drag. Doc thinks I may have torn my meniscus but won't know anything to Ortho see me. I also have lymphedema and my legs are swelling something awful which aggravates the knee. I went for an eval for a power wheelchair or a scooter and I am waiting for their response.

Tbird I am so glad you have the home health care aide.

This should make a big difference to you and your niece.

It bothers me that pain was not a criteria for a scooter-----because I just posted a decision from the BVA regarding Saunders V. Wilkie- an award for pain and functional impairment.

I know this decision doesn't apply to your situation,

but still you would think pain should warrant a scooter- then again...you said you are OK without one....

I hope you can see the ortho doc soon and see what VA can do to treat this.

I had to use a walker many years ago and bought one without wheels.A big mistake.I didnt know they came with wheels.

I bought a rollator too and that was a big help.My neighbor borrowed it when she had knee surgery- nothing like a wheel chair but it helped her.

I keep it in my car ,so if I travel 25 miles to the closest major food store, and there are lots of cars in their lot, I use it and a small plastic basket-just like the store ones but a different color and if I feel my ankle is giving out , in a long line, I can sit in the seat with the brake on ,and put the basket on the floor, until I can check out.

I have serious foot pronation and orthonics are a God send. But my podiatrist said the feeling of falling  is quite common if a pronation patient has to stand too long in one spot.  I did my food shopping yesterday and the store was not too crowded yet. It sure will be today.
