Narcolepsy causing Rheumatoid Arthritis

Rate this question

Question

I have narcolepsy and its has been documented as being an autoimmune disease. I also have 2 other claims for  Arthritis of Cervical Spine and Thoracolumbar Spine. Since after my discharge i've been diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis, so  what I'm asking if someone could point me in the right direction,  should i put in for a new claim for Rheumatoid Arthritis or add it as a secondary to my Narcolepsy.  My Narcolepsy doctor will write me a letter on saying something to the effect that the autoimmune from the Narcolepsy would more than likely caused the Rheumatoid.

I'm just not sure how to go about getting my Rheumatoid added,  im rated at 80% right now and my Arthritis is becoming so painful that i have had to miss days of work due to the flair ups.

My Narcolepsy has also gotten worse where my co-workers have been talking to me and i've fallen asleep at my desk.  They have watched me as I've had my head nod back and forth and  would fall asleep.  They have offered to write me a letter about these observations, along with my wife has observed me where i would fall asleep on the couch and she would say that she would be talking to me and i would have my eyes open but i would just be there staring off at the wall. She said it only would be for a few seconds then i would be awake as normal at talking to her?..

So im just looking for some help on what i should do to get the best chance on getting to 100%

Thank You for to all for the help i receive.

Hi Scottishere99

Narcolepsy connection to RA is going to be a tough nut to crack. You are going to need  a solid IMO letter from a doc. I think your regular doc's letter will be  a good piece of supporting evidence. Have him put in there ,at a minimum "it is more likely than not" caused by N. But the VA is going to need some medical articles from publications and med opinions in support of that kind of claim, and you will have to go out and find a specialist to do that for you. You can't claim RA directly, unless you have some evidence in your str's. So you have to go secondary condition. Question: did you happen to be deployed to the Gulf, etc.? If so, you might have an angle on Gulf War syndrome,/burn pits.

No never deployed to the Gulf, so  do you or anyone else have any suggestions on how i can get rheumatoid Arthritis into my record.  i do have Arthritis of Cervical Spine and Thoracolumbar Spine,  I guess my next thing is to try and find a connection now.

Do you have a  copy of your c-file/medical files? I realize that RA is not the same as OA, but if you had an injury, say your knee, and years later, you have arthritis in the knee, you could s-c that. So, if you did have a back injury, and you could s-c that into arthritis now possibly. Again, you would need professional medical help on that.

GB Army here is a copy of my c-file and also the write up on all the SC diagnoses.  On the Gastroesophageal reflux disease i don't understand why i was give zero percentage i have to take the Medicine Pantoprazole every day or the reflux will cause pain in my chest, actually i was pulled of my submarine for an emergency evac due to the pains i was having and the corpsman could not figure if it was a heart attack and after going through what seemed like a million test it was finally diagnosed as Gastroesophageal reflux.  just didn't understand if i have to take meds for some problem how does it not get anything.  also number 12 and the file with out a number are the first 2 files then it goes to the #2

Scottishere99  Your files are down; take your personal info, name, ssn, etc. off and re post. On your comment on acid reflux, go to diagnostic code 7346 and meds are not a condition for comp, but several others are. We would need to reasons for denial.
