Non VA ER Visit

Shrek. If it is an emergency, you certainly can see a non-VA emergency ER. Usually, they use the concept that you can go to the "closest". Look up the exact wording on VA.gov.  See https://www.va.gov/COMMUNITYCARE/programs/veterans/emergency_care.asp

Shrek, is the one you anticipate closer or farther away than your VAHC? If it's closer, no problem. If the non-VA facility is further away, maybe you were "in the area for x reason, and had to go for immediate help!"

@shrekthetank1 Be sure to tell them you are a veteran. If you end up getting admitted, expect them to ask you if you are willing to transfer to the VA. Always say YES. If you say no, then the VA will not pay for the treatment. After you get released, definitely contact the VA hospital to let them know.
