Complicated PTSD question

Question

I was evaluated by the VA for PTSD and I was diagnosed with anxiety and depression. So I then hired a PTSD Specialist with my own health insurance and he diagnosed me with moderate PTSD. So what now? Do I get him to type me up a letter to provide to the VA Compensation?

Also, on the letter, he’s going to annotate it as Severe PTSD. The paperwork that was sent to my insurance says Moderate PTSD. So if I submit the Severe PTSD to the VA Compensation, will they double check with my insurance to make sure that also says Severe PTSD?

My advice is to apply for VA benefits, "mental health disorder" and let VA decide whether to rate you with ptsd, depression, anxiety, etc.

Just make sure you have the Caluza elements down pat, you need those with all these mental disorders.

As dustoff explained, PTSD needs to be diagnosed by a VA doc for VA to rate it, but a great attorney could change that.

You need a current diagnosis, in service event (called the stressor with PTSD) and nexus for each.  When you go to the grocery store, they probably wont ask you:

"Now, did you earn this money from PTSD or was it depression or anxiety?"

They used to call PTSD "shell shock", so its just a name.

As Bronco says file for 'mental health disorder'.  No matter what your disorder is the VA rates you the same weather the VA calls it anxiety, depression, or PTSD.

I was rated as anxiety for ten years before the VA changed it to PTSD but nothing changed as far as my benefits.

As far as checking, the VA will most likely not check your insurance unless they think something is amiss.  Remember though; always be as honest as possible with the VA to protect yourself.
