Retro Pay Date

Rate this question

Fat

Question

First time veteran submitted a intent to file on 3/16/20.

Submitted paperwork on 4/23/20.

Approved on 5/7/20 (10% Tinnitus).

Total disability 20%.

1. The effective date is 3/16, but is the retro payment date 4/1/20 or 5/1/20.

2. Should the retro be reflective of 10% for 4/1 or 5/1.

3. Can he call 1-800-PEGGY to get an explanation. The Big White Envelope didn't contain retro pay information.

The effective date is 3/16/20.

Payment would start the first of the next month, which is April. To get April's payment, it shows up the first of May.

Yes, he can call Peggy. Tell her I said Hi. :>)

We dont know what the effective date should be because we dont know the date the doc said your conditions first met the criteria for a combined 20 percent. (facts found).  Your effective date is the later of the facts found or date you first applied.

If your doc said you were disabled on the date you applied, you could/should appeal the decision disputing the effective date (and disability percentages if you are so inclined.).
