Tips on posting on the forums.

    1. Post a clear title like ‘Need help preparing PTSD claim’ or “VA med center won’t schedule my surgery instead of ‘I have a question.

    2. Knowledgeable people who don’t have time to read all posts may skip yours if your need isn’t clear in the title.
I don’t read all posts every login and will gravitate towards those I have more info on.

    3. Use paragraphs instead of one massive, rambling introduction or story.

Again – You want to make it easy for others to help. If your question is buried in a monster paragraph, there are fewer who will investigate to dig it out.

    Leading too:

exclamation-point.pngPost straightforward questions and then post background information.

    Examples:

    • Question A. I was previously denied for apnea – Should I refile a claim?
      • Adding Background information in your post will help members understand what information you are looking for so they can assist you in finding it.
Rephrase the question: I was diagnosed with apnea in service and received a CPAP machine, but the claim was denied in 2008. Should I refile?

    • Question B. I may have PTSD- how can I be sure?
      • See how the details below give us a better understanding of what you’re claiming.
Rephrase the question: I was involved in a traumatic incident on base in 1974 and have had nightmares ever since, but I did not go to mental health while enlisted. How can I get help?

This gives members a starting point to ask clarifying questions like “Can you post the Reasons for Denial of your claim?”

You’ve just been rated 100% disabled by the Veterans Affairs. After the excitement of finally having the rating you deserve wears off, you start asking questions. One of the first questions that you might ask is this: It’s a legitimate question – rare is the Veteran that finds themselves sitting on the couch eating bon-bons … Continue reading

Question

How do I go about filing for compensation for travel pay?

Also, what steps do I need to take to file for compensation due to out of pocket medical provider co-pays and prescription co-pays?

Also, how far back can one go(time limit) with these type of claims since I have never sought compensation reimbursement?

I would not think that you could file for compensation but more of reimbursement. Contact your local VAMC business office because they deal with VAMC travel pay and any type of medical co-pay. Not sure if there is a time limit and most of these type situations must be pre-authorized.

I always filed the VA FORM 10-3542  and sent it in to the VAMC Travel Pay Office you go to...if you use outside care be sure and have the Dr or clinicians , rehab specialist ect,,ect,,to initial or sign it for each visit...

example.

I went to outside care for physical rehab   and it was 14 weeks  twice a week and I listed each date each week had them to initial it ...because  I just lasted  all the dates and sent it in UN-sigh or Initial  and they kicked it back said the Dr's or the Rehab people needed to sign each trip I made so had to get them to sign off on all the trips I made....anyway they end up paying it.

I waited until all these dates were completed and then I filled out the VA 10-3542

IT HELPS TO HAVE THE DIRECT DEPOSIT. BUT THEY DO PAY CASE AT THE TRAVEL PAY OFFICE  BUT ITS A BIG HASSLE

Veterans may apply for travel reimbursement by completing VA Form 10-3542

YOU CAN GET THESE FORMS AT THE TRAVEL PAY OFFICE OR GET THEM ONLINE PDF  AND COPY  FILL OUT GET THEM INITIALED AND TAKE TO THE TRAVEL PAY WINDOW.

Mileage (travel reimbursemet) at my VAMC will only be "backpaid" 30 days.  I can not vouche for your VAMC.

If you had VAMC appointments on July 5, 9, 17, 20,24, 26, you can apply for them all at once.  The easiest way (at my VAMC) is go to a Kiosk where you sign in.  Of course, I can not guarantee they have those at your VAMC.

You can also go to the Travel office.

I got refunded prescription copays by going to the "means" office in my VAMC.  Just ask for the means office.  Take your VA letter awarding benefits with you.  You can get back pay for this for a long time.  I got 800 dollars on mine.

I think they can pay back payments if you use out side care and approved from the Mission ACT THAT YOU GOT THE  CCA (Community Care Act) paid by the Tri Care Insurance  paid by the   &VA Approved/  you will get a VA letter to confirm it FROM THE PERSONAL PEOPLE IN THE CCA FOR THE VA

I tried to collect it all in 30 days but the travel pay office said they don't pay ahead  so you need to wait and until you completed the appointments and write them all down and you can use an extra sheet paper  just have the Dr's to sign them or Initial them and the dates  for all your appointments.and you finish the CCA.

MINE WAS 14 WEEKS OF BACK PAY @41.4 CENTS A MILE ONE WAY

THEY DO A CO=PAY AND ITS USUALLY ONE OR TWO OF YOUR COMPLETED APPOINTMENTS THEN IT ALL COUNTS.

Now VA Appointment must be turn in before the 1st of the next month PER EACH MONTH.
