Question

My son got out of the Navy about a year and a half ago and he didn't get the help he needed to file his claims. Can anyone tell me (so I can tell him) how he would go about filing a claim during the mist of this Covid-19 Pandemic? Thank-you in advance.

He can file his claim on line with the VA.

https://www.va.gov/disability/get-help-filing-claim/

This VA link also contains info on how he can obtain representation.

I am in NY and googled the two closest vet rep orgs, state and county, and they have an email contact form at their web sites. I do not know if they are handling veterans claims, one to one, due to the Covid crisis ,in NY . but as long as he has a PC, he might be able to get the help he needs, and certainly he needs to come here as well, if he can.

He also might need to have a copy of his SMRs, but maybe he left the Military with a copy.

Click on the Coronavirus Faqs area, in above link,  as the claims form he needs is there.

If he doesn't know how to file a claim online.

First he can call 1-800-827-1000 and request a intent to file.

That gives him one year to get medical information together.

Next, he can contact the local American Legion, DAV, VFW, etc for assistance.

They will submit the original paperwork to get the process going.

Remember Caluza standard.  This is the way claims are decided.

1. Inservice incident

2. Current diagnosis of sickness or injury

3. Nexus statement or continuity of treatment for issue.

Good Luck. 🤠
