Getting decision letters via VA 1800 #

Question

I had been trying to get copies of a decision letter and due to COVID and distance to VARO kept me from getting those easily.

I wrote a few letters to the VARO with no response for months

After posting here on HADIT someone said to call the 1800 #

I had great luck with this. You will run the gauntlet of standard VA "are you going to hurt yourself" and then they ask you to say what you want. Say "letters" they will confirm that you want forms and letters, say yes.

You will then be asked to input your social, date of birth and will be connected with a VA rep.  You will need to know the rough month/year of the decision and then they can either mail, fax or email to you.

Within 5 minutes of getting off the phone i received the email with the letters.

This sounds like good advice.  I know "organized" people never lose something like a VARO decision, but, for the rest of us, there is Ask peggy.

Mostly, I now "scan in" my decisions to keep an electronic copy, before I even read them.

I am pretty organized, i have a file cabinet with every claim in a folder containing copies of the evidence submitted, certified mail receipts, fax receipts, etc along with decision letters that correspond with that claim. Appeals for denials/eed/% are in a seperate folder inside that one.  For some reason i didnt save a letter i got last year that i thougth would justify my eed for the OSA grant i got this year.  Turns out it didnt, but im glad this is something the VA has available and has strangely made very easy.
