Home Sleep Study

Rate this question

Question

Hi,

Anyone use a private company for a home sleep study?  If so who did you use?

Reason, I am currently in a remote location and would be a reach to travel to any VA sleep study.

Thanks!
Al

A1329 Why not call the VAMH you are closest to and ask to speak to the sleep study dept. and ask them for some reputable companies. Say you are not asking for the VA's recommendation, but would like to find out a few that have been used successfully in the past. They might tell you. Might. If not, ask what is the criteria for the study, like does it have to be from an "accredited" company, or performed using a certain standard. I don't think it is mentioned in the diagnostic code for sleep apnea.

No need, contact your VAMC PCP and have them schedule you for an in home sleep study. I suffer from insomnia and sleep apnea. The two times I did sleep studies in the VAMC, I did not reach full sleep and the test where inconclusive. My PCP scheduled me two in home sleep studies. The VAMC will choose the company and they will send you all the equipment and information you need to do a three night in home sleep study and then return the equipment to the company. After the test is completed you will be scheduled a sleep evaluation where a sleep specialist will tell you the results. I think I received my C PAP machine within 30 days.

I did originally.

I was referred to the sleep dept/pulmonology and after a office visit was referred for a sleep study to a local private medical provider, did the whole thing and ended up doing one at the VA because the pulmonologist had actually ordered a in house one and did that too.

If its a private company its likely a take home, so what you will do is go into their sleep center and they will hook you up to the machine which you will wear until the next day so try and get a late appointment the first day, early the next.  All you do is normal stuff, go to sleep at a normal time to try and get 8 hours + so they have good data.  Then they will get your data and send it to the VA, however if i were you a few days after you turn the machine back in call their medical records dept and ask for the exam notes, sleep study data, etc from that so you have that data as well.  Once the VA gets it they will then push for the CPAP if you have OSA.
