The Caregiver stipend, previously available only to "new" Vets, has been opened up for Vietnam/Korea/WW2 Vets:

This could be a big deal for you, if you need a caregiver.

Our situations are an example of the VA falling short.  Do they expect us to abandon our loved ones.  Why can she not get someone from the VA to come in every day and help out? The VA should take care of the vet's family because that is part and parcel of a vet's life. The VA does not have to support the whole family but they should kick in a helping hand when a disabled vet is trying to care for a loved one without help.  If my wife went down next week and was really in need of 24 hour care I have some insurance for that but by the time I got it all cranked up I probably would not need it anymore.
