Erectile Dysfunction

Rate this question

Wise Guy

Question

I just filed my Erectile Dysfunction claim as secondary to my service connected Anxiety. Through the VA I was prescribed Viagra which didn't work at all. Then I told my sex therapist that with viagra, it doesn't work, masturbation doesn't work, nocturnal erections never happen, and sexual intercourse is a complete fail because of this. The next day I had an appointment with my Urologist and I said the same thing. My doctors notes from them were pretty good. They said it's due to my anxiety medication. I printed off my notes to include in my file for evidence. I also included a buddy statement from my dad explaining what I had told him. Lastly, I submitted a personal statement telling the VA exactly what I'm claiming and whats in my file so no one screws it up.

Will I have to do a C&P exam?

Will I just get the 0% rating with SMC-K?

Or will I get the 20% rating with SMC-K? I read that for ED, you'll get 0%, 20%, or 30%

I have seen many Vets file for ED and to be honest, most of them are service connected but have a 0% rating. I know of some of them have implants and still receive a 0%. The way I understand the reg is that if you had an incident or event in service such as lost, then you can get a rating. If its secondary to a service connected disability, then you will be service connected with a 0% rating.

@brokensoldier244thI'm just trying to see how I could claim it if it came about. So far it's just ED secondary to Anxiety.

There is nothing to see. Unless you have a physical deformity or missing parts due to service, you don't have a physical claim.

Brokensoldier is correct. It's pretty straight forward. If you can s-c which is often done thru meds taken for s-c conditions, such as MH, then the award is rated as 0% but it is a SMC special category. The comp is added on top of your combined rating at an additional $110.31 for 2020. As Brokensoldier said, you don't get a higher rating than 0% unless there is some injury involved. In this case, you are talking s-c due to MH, not an injury.

For the ED specifically, no. For anything else on your claim your dependent should add to it.

Effective December 1, 2019

Levels K and Q are special rates called SMC rate payment variations. We may add Level K to your basic SMC rate.

  • SMC-K and SMC-Q rates

    SMC rate payment variations
SMC letter designation Monthly payment (in U.S. $) How this payment variation works
SMC-K 110.31 If you qualify for SMC-K, we add this rate to your basic disability compensation rate for any disability rating from 0% to 100%. We also add this rate to all SMC basic rates except SMC-O, SMC-Q, and SMC-R. You may receive 1 to 3 SMC-K awards in addition to basic and SMC rates.

Wise Guy No. It is a "special" category of SMC's. It isn't related at all to any of your dependent status. One flat rate. and it goes up, just as all the other disabilities, effective 12/01/20 by 1.3%, so if my math is correct the new grant will be $111.74.
