Right-I have CHAMPVA and only pay a $50 co pay on my med.I only have one prescribed med.

If I choose Meds by Mail, the local VAMC would send the med to me by mail. With no co pay.

I choose instead to pay the co pay at my closest pharmacy.

Can the widow join us here?

CHAMPVA depends on 100 % P &T rating for direct SC in the veteran's life time,and/or direct service connected death.

There are other eligibility factors here :

https://www.va.gov/health-care/family-caregiver-benefits/champva/

CHAMPVA does not pay for 1151 deaths.

My husband was 30% in his lifetime for PTSD, He had two claims pending when he died-for higher PTSD rating and he had  an 1151 claim.

I assumed his claims when he died (this widow will have to do that by Substitution) and VA ultimately awarded 100% P & T for SC PTSD with a very favorable EED.Making me eligible for CHAMPVA for almost 3 years prior to his death.

Also in addition to a 1151 death award ( which does not garner CHAMPVA) he subsequently was awarded ,posthumously, my claims under two separate theories of entitlement-thus two awards for direct SC death.

So even without the initial CHAMPVA award for PTSD ,I then would have become eligible for CHAMPVA, under the first direct SC death award.

My daughter was also eligible for CHAMPVA but had already joined the Military when the initial  posthumous award came, for his 100% P & T for PTSD.

Also a CHAMPVA eligible spouse must get both  Medicare  Parts A & B if they are eligible by age for it.

As a widow ( of two vets) I never got any adequate help from any vet org.

I hope she can join us here because survivors benefits can be very involved.

Everything I know about DIC is here in our DIC forum.
