Question

Hello, I am 100% permanant & total & trying to find out if I am eligile for SMC-S.  I am rated at 70% for depression/PTSD/Military Sexual Trauma, I do not have any other ratings higher than 50%.  Am I automatically eligible for SMC-S housebound?

I called the VA but no one could explain SMC-S to me?!?!

Confused & Lost, please help!  I want to file a claim for SMC-S.  Can I get it?

Thanks

Confused & Lost Veteran.

There are 2 ways to get to SMC S.

1.  If you have a "single" 100 percent plus an additional combined 60 percent, seperate and distinct from each other, this is statutory SMC S.

2.  If you are housebound in fact. This generally requires a c and p exam and for the doctor to state you are substantially confined to the premisis.

Based on your post, you dont qualify under number 1 (statuatory smc s), but I dont know if you qualify under number 2, housebound in fact.

You automatically get it if you qualify, unless they over looked it.  But I doubt it.  If you request a C&P for it, they're probably going to look at all your ratings and reassess.  You could get increased, or decreased.  How bad do you want SMC?
