Tips on posting on the forums.

    1. Post a clear title like ‘Need help preparing PTSD claim’ or “VA med center won’t schedule my surgery instead of ‘I have a question.

    2. Knowledgeable people who don’t have time to read all posts may skip yours if your need isn’t clear in the title.
I don’t read all posts every login and will gravitate towards those I have more info on.

    3. Use paragraphs instead of one massive, rambling introduction or story.

Again – You want to make it easy for others to help. If your question is buried in a monster paragraph, there are fewer who will investigate to dig it out.

    Leading too:

exclamation-point.pngPost straightforward questions and then post background information.

    Examples:

    • Question A. I was previously denied for apnea – Should I refile a claim?
      • Adding Background information in your post will help members understand what information you are looking for so they can assist you in finding it.
Rephrase the question: I was diagnosed with apnea in service and received a CPAP machine, but the claim was denied in 2008. Should I refile?

    • Question B. I may have PTSD- how can I be sure?
      • See how the details below give us a better understanding of what you’re claiming.
Rephrase the question: I was involved in a traumatic incident on base in 1974 and have had nightmares ever since, but I did not go to mental health while enlisted. How can I get help?

This gives members a starting point to ask clarifying questions like “Can you post the Reasons for Denial of your claim?”

You’ve just been rated 100% disabled by the Veterans Affairs. After the excitement of finally having the rating you deserve wears off, you start asking questions. One of the first questions that you might ask is this: It’s a legitimate question – rare is the Veteran that finds themselves sitting on the couch eating bon-bons … Continue reading

VA Rating Question

Hey the following are my rating what should my rating be? The VA rep told me to use the calculator but I get a different rating on the VA CFR chart.

Left knee chondromalacia of the patella with degenerative arthritis     10%

 Tinnitus           10%

Bilateral pes planus, plantar fasciitis, and hammer toes           10%

 Lumbosacral strain      10%

Secondary to Lumbosacral strain left lower extremity 10%

Secondary to Lumbosacral strain right lower extremity 10%

 Sinusitis           30%

Cervical syndrome with degenerative arthritis of the spine       10%

Secondary to cervical syndrome migraine headaches 30%

Right knee chondromalacia of the patella with degenerative arthritis   10%

30% +30% = 51, 51 + 10% = 56, 56 + 10 = 60, 60 + 10% = 64, 64 + 10% = 68, 68 + 10% = 71, 71 +10% = 74, 74 + 10% = 77, 77 + 10% = 79  and then the VA rounds up to a combined 80% rating. Now if you have a bilateral rating this may be a little off but the higher you go the harder it is to reach the 100% combined rating with only 10% and 30% ratings.

10

+10=19

+10=27

+10=34

+10=41, plus bilateral factor of 4.1 =45.1 rounds down to 45

+30=62

+30=73

+10=76

+10=78

+10=80

No rounding needed, a solid 80.

You need at least a 30, or equivalent to get to 90% and at least a 80 to get to 100%

Keep plugging along,

VA math goes from the greatest/severest/highest disability then add the rest.

(a) To use table I, the disabilities will first be arranged in the exact order of their severity, beginning with the greatest disability and then combined with use of table I as hereinafter indicated.

As stated bilateral is something separate.

Yes,

but,

Bilateral's first,

then the bilateral factor,

then the rest,

highest numbers first,

both times.

I have proven the online bilateral calculator(s) incorrect at least once in the past.

The pencil works best,
