Tips on posting on the forums.

    1. Post a clear title like ‘Need help preparing PTSD claim’ or “VA med center won’t schedule my surgery instead of ‘I have a question.

    2. Knowledgeable people who don’t have time to read all posts may skip yours if your need isn’t clear in the title.
I don’t read all posts every login and will gravitate towards those I have more info on.

    3. Use paragraphs instead of one massive, rambling introduction or story.

Again – You want to make it easy for others to help. If your question is buried in a monster paragraph, there are fewer who will investigate to dig it out.

    Leading too:

exclamation-point.pngPost straightforward questions and then post background information.

    Examples:

    • Question A. I was previously denied for apnea – Should I refile a claim?
      • Adding Background information in your post will help members understand what information you are looking for so they can assist you in finding it.
Rephrase the question: I was diagnosed with apnea in service and received a CPAP machine, but the claim was denied in 2008. Should I refile?

    • Question B. I may have PTSD- how can I be sure?
      • See how the details below give us a better understanding of what you’re claiming.
Rephrase the question: I was involved in a traumatic incident on base in 1974 and have had nightmares ever since, but I did not go to mental health while enlisted. How can I get help?

This gives members a starting point to ask clarifying questions like “Can you post the Reasons for Denial of your claim?”

You’ve just been rated 100% disabled by the Veterans Affairs. After the excitement of finally having the rating you deserve wears off, you start asking questions. One of the first questions that you might ask is this: It’s a legitimate question – rare is the Veteran that finds themselves sitting on the couch eating bon-bons … Continue reading

Dod Kicker For Seriously Disabled

betrayed

Question

I know I am not loosin it, god knows I have before. But doesnt DOD pay a seperate check to SC Vets who are retired. You have to become 70-100% disabled within three years of retirement? Dollar amounts go from 100 to 300 per month.

Betrayed,

I think the 300 dollar kicker was replaced in 2004 with concurrent receipt passage.

I know that those with 100% schedular are entitled to full concurrent receipt: you receive both VA compensation and your retirement check for 20 yrs or more of service.

Those of us who are less than 100% (but at least 50%) are having our retirement pay restored over time. For example, a person currently rated at 70% has 737.07 of retirement pay restored (1232.00 - 494.93).

Said another way...It used to be that one would have to forfeit retirement pay to receive the tax free VA compensation. That is being phased out. You now get both in full if you are 100% schedular and are being phased in to receive both if you are rated 50% or more.

The details of the figures above are indicative of someone who is experiencing the benefits of concurrent receipt.

I fully understand how the concurrent phase in works thats why I told them to shove IU in july when they offered it to me. Give me a fair honest rating and I will come out over 100% schedular I knew that, thats why I was so angry, no one at the va wanted to do their job right. Its like the old addage we dont have time to do it right the first time, but we have all the time in the world the second time! I hope your wrong I wanted that kicker, did 100 schedular get full both before the law changed in 2004?
