    Tips on posting on the forums.

    1. Post a clear title like ‘Need help preparing PTSD claim’ or “VA med center won’t schedule my surgery” instead of ‘I have a question.
       
    2. Knowledgeable people who don’t have time to read all posts may skip yours if your need isn’t clear in the title.
      I don’t read all posts every login and will gravitate towards those I have more info on.
       
    3. Use paragraphs instead of one massive, rambling introduction or story.
       
      Again – You want to make it easy for others to help. If your question is buried in a monster paragraph, there are fewer who will investigate to dig it out.
     
    Leading too:

    exclamation-point.pngPost straightforward questions and then post background information.
     
     
    Examples:
     
    • Question A. I was previously denied for apnea – Should I refile a claim?
      • Adding Background information in your post will help members understand what information you are looking for so they can assist you in finding it.
    Rephrase the question: I was diagnosed with apnea in service and received a CPAP machine, but the claim was denied in 2008. Should I refile?
     
    • Question B. I may have PTSD- how can I be sure?
      • See how the details below give us a better understanding of what you’re claiming.
    Rephrase the question: I was involved in a traumatic incident on base in 1974 and have had nightmares ever since, but I did not go to mental health while enlisted. How can I get help?
     
    This gives members a starting point to ask clarifying questions like “Can you post the Reasons for Denial of your claim?”

38 CFR 4.1 Essentials of evaluative rating.

This rating schedule is primarily a guide in the evaluation of disability resulting from all types of diseases and injuries encountered as a result of or incident to military service. The percentage ratings represent as far as can practicably be determined the average impairment in earning capacity resulting from such diseases and injuries and their residual conditions in civil occupations. Generally, the degrees of disability specified are considered adequate to compensate for considerable loss of working time from exacerbations or illnesses proportionate to the severity of the several grades of disability. For the application of this schedule, accurate and fully descriptive medical examinations are required, with emphasis upon the limitation of activity imposed by the disabling condition. Over a period of many years, a veteran's disability claim may require reratings in accordance with changes in laws, medical knowledge and his or her physical or mental condition. It is thus essential, both in the examination and in the evaluation of disability, that each disability be viewed in relation to its history.

WOW!!!!!

The Schedule of Ratings is something every vet should have good access to-

They can use it to shape their evidence to request a higher rating by seeing what the percentages mean in each case.

I havent gotten through the other stuff yet but I will and I bet it is all great!

TBird- I am familiar with Meeks and Schrath etc-

does this contain any latest interpretations too by the CAVC?

And I assume those DADs are decision assessment documents---

always a great sourece for info---

Question- if a vet searches here say for Alcohol caused residuals that are ratable -directly due to service disability -not saying that well -but I mean Allen V Principi-

It just sits there and blinks at me until it times out. I think that what you are doing with this addition will be invaluable to veterans trying to file claims.

thanks ricky just working on the best format to put it in now, i wanted to make sure folks thought it would be useful before i put a lot of time into it. now i will work on the format and gathering the data. i have trouble with the gpo site also, i think it is a pretty busy server.

I have found that you need to go to the VBA site and work from there. Copy and Paste will not work on my PC.

T-Bird, Like I said this am. Awesome work here. Keep it up.

I had a problem with copy and paste on my previous PC. Maybe the work-around I used will work for you.

Paste to your wordpad or notepad first. Then copy from wordpad/notepad and paste to the word or works document.

Hope this helps.
