  1. Thanks Pete and Notorious. I think I will get me an attorney. Appreciate your input!
  2. That's true. But now that I have her portion of the retirement (her 50%) coming straight out of the retirement check, now that I have been rated 80% disabled, how will this be affected. From what I understand, the monies I receive from the disability will be absorbed by my retirement pay. My ex-wife currently gets 50% of my retirement but with my 50% I pay child support along with paying back an old military debt. So in essence I don't get crap. I guess I'll just have to start new allotments some how.
  3. But until now, the AF was taking my ex-wife's portion of my retirement out automatically (out of the retirement check). Now with me getting disability compensation of roughly $1,400 a month, will they still be taking her 50% out of my retirement pay?
  4. I just found out today that I was approved for 80% disability compensation. What I didn't see coming ahead of time are the many complications this good news brings. 1. I am divorced and currently 50% of my retirement goes to my ex-wife. How will her payment (which is automatically sent to her out of the total retirement pay) be affected? 2. I pay child support with my 50% of retirement pay. How will this be affected? 3. I also am paying back an old military debt which is a little over $20,000.00 (at a reduced clip due to financial hardship of approximately $600 a month (split between my ex and I)). How will this payment be affected as for the past 2 years this debt was split between the ex and I? Is there a one-stop shop for the answers to these questions? I retired from the Air Force in 2009. Until today, I wasn't even aware that my disability compensation (if it were approved) would affect my retirement pay. I'm also a newly hired employee of the V.A.. Will my recent award of a 80% disability rating affect my position there? I think it will push me near the front on future applications for federal employment will it not? on Thanks immensely for any assistance with this.
