My question is about this line regarding proof to establish vet pref based upon service connected disability.
"An official document, dated 1991 or later, from the Department of VA, or from a branch of the armed forces, certifying that the service member has a service-connected disability of 10% or more."
That seems very general to me. I know when they complete you get something I think has been referred to as an "award letter." But can there be something issued before that final percent is determined if you have an (at least somewhat) obvious service connect disability? In other words, can there be an initial finding, and details can be worked later? Can a memo from someone serve as "an official document?" In my experience, it does. If that is true, who would need to sign it?
The reason I ask is that I am preparing to separate and my conditional offer from Department of State is heavily dependent on 10 point disabled Vet preference. So for my personal situation, a statement that will secure that preference gives me employment stability and helps me keep my family fed. I am working with more than 180 days now, so there is some time for me to push it. But I feel I have better odds if I know EXACTLY what to ask for.
Anyone here ever done anything like that?
Thanks.
