I'm asking for my buddy who served on the USS Edward McDonnell, DE1043. He spent four years down in the engine room and now has tinnitus and hearing issues. I have tinnitus myself, from service in the artillery. My claim went through without question because of the artillery connection. I was hoping to find sound level information about that ship, for him to use in a nexus letter to support his claim. I haven't found anything on the internet, YET. Thank you Broncovet and Buck 52, for your help.

Send 'em a VA form 21-4138, Statement In Support of Claim, and just write on the form that you are requesting an increase in your PTSD and tell them that you want 70%, that you believe that, according to the "requirements" for you to receive 70%.......that you believe you EXCEED that "threshold" and would like to have your 70%.
K.I.S.S.
I'm working on that. I just want to explain why in some detail. I'll wait to see what they do with the wound.
I'm disturbed that the hearing problem is "uncompensatable", I know others who have compensated hearing
loss.
I haven't decided about sending in a NOD yet; I'll probably send in a request as you suggest, and see what comes
of that. However, the clock is running on my NOD time.

What is your problem with the VA? Are you trying to get an increase? What are you SC'ed for?
I've had pretty good luck so far with a PTSD claim. It came back at 50 percent, along with 10 percent for
tinnitus, that 10 percent I've had for several years.
I just don't trust them. I think they assigned 50 percent just to keep me from reaching 70 percent total,
I think that is the goal for them right now; keep people from reaching 70 percent.
Anyway, I have hearing loss which is significant, and uncompensated. I'm checking in for a sleep
apnea test, I don't know if that can be called service connected or not. The hearing loss was
examined last November; came back as hearing loss compensated at zero.
I have an issue with a wound which went undocumented in Nam, now I have sent in x-rays to show them
the shrapnel in my side; we'll see what comes of that.
Anyway, that's the way it's going. I think I'm being set short of where I should be.
This claim just closed before the relaxation of the requirements for PTSD, so I've been through it the
long way around, wrote a stressor letter with eight items, had two buddy letters, and on and on.
It is very discouraging.
