Guest unit731
If individual disabilities add up to more than 100 - combined total adding each up equals maybe 140%, 160%, 180% etc., can veteran collect more than the standard 100% compensation? Exclude spouse and children which does add more.
Guest Dataman
Sorry but your using Normal Math. Use VA Math. 100% - 40% = 60% not disabled 60% - 20% = 48% not disabled Ie only take away 12%, not 20. 20% of 60% is 12. I know screwey. But it's VA math. Spreadsheet here to do the math for you Just start with Highest $ then 60x.20 = the percent to take away THey don't all up. SteveD
Jay Johnson
It depends on the conditions. You may qualify for housebound under the 100% + 60% rule, but they need to be singular ratings (IE - 1 condition is 100% and one is 60% ....they can't be a combination of disabilities). You can also apply for special monthly compensation (SMC) if you feel you require aid and attendance or have other special needs. Not really much more I can tell you without more information. Exclude spouse and children which does add more. When you get to 100% plus 60% using VA math, you will recieve a schedule award..about $300 more a month. It's the "S" award on the table found here...... http://www.vba.va.gov/bln/21/Rates/comp02.htm The first rating must be for a 100% singular disability, the next 60% can be a single disability OR a combination of different disabilities, but they use VA math to make up the 60%. (i) Total plus 60 percent, or housebound; 38 U.S.C. 1114(s). The special monthly compensation provided by 38 U.S.C. 1114(s) is payable where the veteran has a single service-connected disability rated as 100 percent and: (1) Has additional service-connected disability or disabilities independently ratable at 60 percent, separate and distinct from the 100 percent service-connected disability and involving different anatomical segments or bodily systems, http://www.warms.vba.va.gov/regs/38CFR/BOO...ART3/S3_350.DOC Edited November 17, 2005 by jessejames
Guest phubai70
If you have a single disability rated at 100% additional disabilities are not va mat combined. If you had 3 @ 20% each you would have 100% + 60% that would qualify for SMC. Any combination of 60% provided they are separate from the 100% disability.
