The damage Hypertension does is the reason it is called the silent Killer. The major damage is to the kidneys. The most severe damage is to the blood vessel walls. Anurysms, Strokes. Sudden death can occurr if left untreated. It also effects the vessels in the eyes causing blurred vision.

I was told by a very trusted Doctor that the best way to control Hypertension is to go see a Kidney specialist. They can run tests to determine what needs to be done.

I personally would like to stop taking 5 different meds for it.

Does anyone take clonodine as a emergency if the top line gets over 150 to 160. The VA nurse said my BP is really serious. The Docs usualy dont prescribe meds like that.

Im only on one med (Lisinopril) and mine usually ran around 155/95 off meds. On meds, I run around 145/90. Never heard of an emergency medicine and was never told 155 was so serious. I know its high, but not emergency meds to save my life high. I have been having blurred vision though. Thought it was just my glasses or my vision changing some. Might need to go in and be checked out.

Nathan you need to have your BP lower than 130/80 and even lower if you have diabetes. It sounds like you are probably not taking enough Lisonopril 10 mg instead of 40 mg and maybe you need something else.

If your ankles are swollen you better get some help fast or you can be in big trouble. Please see a Doc about your blood pressure.

No problems with my ankles or diabetes at all. Im only 28 (I know any age can have it though) I am on 20mg lisiopril once a day. was on 10mg but it didnt do anything. I know I need my dosage upped but ran out of insurance and havent been enrolled at the VA yet. Mainly because the first person I talked to up there told me I had to have my disability rated first. I have recently found out that was false. Either way, Im rated now anyways so just need to enroll and get an apointment. Im sure they will up my meds for it. I ended up with 20% for the hypertension part of my claim.
