You are correct; I was on the USS Midway from 1979 to 1982. I used to work underneath the flight deck in the O3 level. I have been exposed to JP-5 and other hazardous chemicals because of my collateral duty as a damage control petty officer. In 2008, I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. As of now, I have a 50% disability due to hearing loss. JP-5 contamination in our drinking water was worse during the underway replenishment due to the transfer of fuel.
