  1. Hi Berta, I had two pages of things i received no rating for. My VA doctor was looking and he could not understand some of my other issues did not get a rating. Yes my daughter has her tuition paid for already. I only have her and my wife now. My other daughter has since graduated from college. I have applied for SSDI and was approved before the VA came back with my rating. I do have one question about the SSDI, will i get both VA and SSDI benefits. My SSDI payments are close to $1400 a month. The issues that did not receive a rating were noted with 0% next to it. I still have not received my brown envelope. My VA doctor actually printed out my findings, because he could see them too. I was wonder why all of a sudden i was getting A1 service from the VA. I have Kidney flare-ups all the time and i called them friday afternoon and they had me a appointment for Monday morning.

    atruesoldier- WOW!!!!!!! Congratulations!

Is the award Permanent and total? That is- did they award Chapter 35 (DEA educational Benefits)to your dependents?

Have you applied for SSDI benefits too?

With 100% or TDIU for one SC disability, then if you ever have another independent disability rated at 60% or more they would award yu SMC (Special Monthly Compensation)

"I think my overall percentage was 220 but there were 7 things i did not get a rating on, so imagine what my total would have been"

Did they defer these issues? or even mention them at all?

  2. Hi Chuck, honestly i have no idea of anything else i qualify for. Trust me it has been a battle just trying to find out my rating percentage. Every other week i would receive a letter stating, "We are sorry it is taking so long to process your claim" and at times it was very depressing. If you can point me in the right direction on what i need to do, i would greatly appreciate it. I dont know if i posted on here that i was a Stage 4 Brain Cancer survivor. They gave me the option to continue on Active Duty or get out. I chose to stay and finish my Career. Then they turn around and Force me into Medical Retirement. I have never been one to quit or give up on anything.

    100% Schedular? Congratulations!

Anyway, with the other disabilities, you should have been awarded TDIU as well. The actual law requires this, but the VA often tries to get out of it, citing VA regs/guidance that is/are more restrictive than the law allows.

  3. Hello to all my comrades!

I finally got my rating back after 8 months. It spent 4 months in review before they finalized it on Sept 21, the day before my birthday Sept 22.

I am 100%. I think my overall percentage was 220 but there were 7 things i did not get a rating on, so imagine what my total would have been. I have always told people to be patient and things will happen. I also have said that God will never put too much of a load on your shoulder without providing you help. I know after i had been Medically retired from the Military, my income was cut in half. I was always wondering how i was going to provide for my family. I left it all up to the Lord to handle and finally he came through. That being said my friends, i say be patient and never give up....

  5. They seem to take their time. How long have they had your claim? You should get max schedular rateing and likely a SMC out of this, likely more than one SMC.

    Hang in there.

    J

    Hi J,

They have had my claim at the Compensation review board since April. Like i said they were kind enough to send me a letter telling me they apologize for the delay. Im doing my best to hang in there. Everything is in the hands of the VA, i cant work, and just got a letter from VocRehab telling me i dont qualify as they have no rating. I do have Tricare health coverage but just like the VA, once you are off AD you seem to get pushed to the back of the bus. I am receiving VA Medical and at first it seemed i was pushed to the side until they saw my Medical records. Now i have appointments on top of appointments. Nevertheless, i am happy to still be alive. I do have mood swings but i was informed that was a side effect from the cancer. Im never angry or disrespectful with the care i receive, because i know they are just doing there job. Thanks for all your help and comments.

  6. Welcome Dennis sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I also see you listed your rating as 80%. So when you say you are waiting on a rating did you mean an increase? Did you serve in the Gulf overseas or Iraq? There are soldiers coming back from certain zones with cancers so you may want to research and compare. Well stay close and be prepared to learn alot to help your claim. God Bless.

Hi Michelle, that was my rating from the Military. I guess i misunderstood the listing of rating, so i will have to change it to none at the time. As for the deployments. I have served in every conflict or War since 1991. That includes Gulf War, Somalia, Bosnia, Afghanistan, and OIF. I was told about my cancer, that it was a rare type found in the US. After being misdiagnosed for many months, i found out i had cancer and 2 out of 3 people dont survive it. You can imagine how i feel to be one of the survivors. I currently suffer from Major Depression. It is scary that for many years the government denied there was a Gulf War Syndrome and i saw a lot of my fellow Marines health decline and some even die. Its very painful to know that after a decade has past before they admit there was something wrong. I am thankful to still be alive and i see each day as a blessing.

  7. Hello,

I am new to this forum and just wanted to introduce myself. I am a recently Medically retired vet of both the Marines and Army. I served 17yrs before being forced to out on medical. I have always been a fighter and fault this battle to the end. My career was cut short after being diagnosed with brain cancer (Stage 4). If it was left up to me i would had stayed in and did my 20yrs. I guess God has a plan in store for all of us. Im currently waiting on VA to send me my rating. I know all of my medical papers were in order, so i have no idea what could be taking 3+ months. Im being patient but you all know that you cant do anything until the rating comes back. I plan to use this forum to post my updates and get valuable help. This place offers a lot of information that could benefit a lot of veterans. I will send this link back to my Soldiers so they will be informed prior to getting out of the military. My name is Dennis. Nice to be here

  8. You know sometimes i think the VA does hope that one will past away before the benefits rating comes back. My uncle recently applied as he was a Vietnam Vet and just never applied. Its said to say 5 months later he passed away from cancer. My dad goes to the VA but i wonder if they are just giving him meds and sending him home. My dad is Tricare for Life, so he can go anywhere but he sticks with the VA cuz its convenient. Well lets hope that is not the case with VA, and hope they are taking care of the Veterans properly.

  9. Hello,

I am new to this forum and just have a question about the VA rating and how long it really takes. I am now a retired veteran from the Army & Marines. I was 2yrs shy of my 20yr retirement. I received a 80% permanant disability retirement rating. I did the BDD claim process and VA physicals back in March and i am still waiting on that rating. My DAV rep told me not to look for anything until around September. Just a couple weeks ago, i got a letter from the Compensation Rating Office. The letter said they are still processing my application for Compensation. We apologize for the delay. I have no idea why they wasted my time sending me that, lol. I called VA and they told me it was done and being reviewed at the Compensation level. Well its seems like its been in review for 3.5 months. Is that normal? Anyway i was just wondering what is the average nowadays for a rating to be received. Everyone knows you cant do anything until you get this rating. I wanted to see if i qualified for VocRehab and other VA medical. It is a good thing i have Tricare, or i would be in some serious trouble. In my case i need constant medical care and checkups. Im about to run out of my meds. The Army doc was kind of enough to give me an additional 90 day supply of my meds which are about to run out. My Va claim was two pages, i think i saw a total of 8 doctors during my VA physical.

Here is my list of major issues.

Brain Cancer, Renal Failure (im borderline for dialysis) , Stermastoid Fibrosis, Chronic Anemia/Leukopenia, Amnestic d/o secondary to brain cancer, Hypothyroidism, Sleep Apnea (CPAP), Hearing loss (thanks to being misdiagnosed) w hearing aids, Enstachian tubes (help drain fluid out of my inner ear), constant memory lapses/loss, lumbar back condition (cant stand longer than 15 mins w/o pain, Chronic Migranes, Salivary Gland secretion xerostoma ( lost my saliva gland to the radiation), vocal cord polyp Laryngeal d/o, Tinnitus, PTSD, Major Depression, Anxiety d/o. I have another list of minor 10% ratings but no need to list those. I applied for SSDI and was approved first time.

I really like this forum as it gives me a lot of info and answers.
