I mean, I have this one pair of OLD OLD sneakers that are so worn out that I can get my foot in the shoe with my AFO on, but the shoes look like something someone would wear while shoveling out the barn (Why do they look like barnshovelingout shoes? 'Cause that's what I used to wear while shoveling out the barn!).
I am ashamed to wear them. Wife wanted to take her Mother out for supper last night, so instead of wearing those shoes, I just took a couple rolls of AceWrap and wrapped up my bad foot/ankle, got my crutches, put on a good shoe on my good foot, and walked around like I had just broken my ankle. Only bad part of that charade is the fact that I have no stamina and using those crutches just wears me out. But, I got through the meal and didn't embarass anyone.
My question:
Will the VA help me out? I just need a couple of pairs of shoes (and a new cane, my old one is coming apart). If they will help me out, how do I go about doing this?
"It is cold and we have no blankets.
The little children are freezing to death.
My people, some of them, have run away to the hills, and have no blankets, no food; no one knows where they are-perhaps freezing to death.
I want to have time to look for my children and see how many of them I can find.
Maybe I shall find them among the dead.
Hear me, my chiefs! I am tired; my heart is sick and sad.
From where the sun now stands, I will fight no more forever."
