Missing Records

Question

My personal military and medical records have been reported as destroyed in a fire within the archive's in St. Louis. Are there any other U.S. Army or Record locations that might contain either originals or copies of my military records? Specifically, all or portions of my medical records. I served from May 1956 to August 1959 both within the U.S. (Fort Jackson and then Camp Gordon, now Fort Gordon) as well as in France (SHAPE) and Germany (Idar Oberstein >Advance Military Police and Criminal Investigation).

Have you attempted to get them yourself via NARA web site ? You can use the online SF 180 form.

I suggest this as-the VA told 2 local vets I helped with claims - that their records were burned in the fire but I have copies of their SMRs right here.

The VA lied. They got them with a SF 180 themselves. It is worth a try.

I see you have 40%-how did they handle the lack of medical records when you got the 40%?
