Open Heart Mitral Valve Repair

Rate this question

Retired MSG

Question

I am rated 10%sc for high blood pressure.  Two years ago I was diagnosed with a severe mitral valve leak and had to have open heart mitral valve repair.  Can I file for disability for the mitral valve repair and the continued shortness of breath etc.  My refraction rate is <30.

If you can get an IMO that states, with a full medical rationale that your Service connected HBP caused this problem, than the VA would service connect it, as secondary to the HBP.

The IMO doctor would need to refer to some abstracts or treatises to bolster their opinion.

This site states that untreated HBP can lead to mitral valve regurgitation.

Was your situation one of regurgitation?

"untreated" might also mean improperly treated, meaning the HBP meds were not strong enough to help.

Did any surgeon or doctor, when you had the surgery, feel your HBP meds should be changed?

When thousands of Americans faced annihilation in the 1800s Chief

Osceola's response to his people, the Seminoles, was

simply "They(the US Army)have guns, but so do we."

Sameo to us -They (VA) have 38 CFR ,38 USC, and M21-1- but so do we.
