Question

My buddy received notification of his award on February 21, 2007. He was awarded 70% . His award was retroactive to Nov.1,2005. Would like to know how long before he should receive his retro check.

Thanks to all,

Tanker31

tanker31,

It shouldn't be too much longer. By the looks of things, the retro isn't over $25,000.00, so the money should be on its way within a very short amount of time. Your friend may receive his retro together with February's compensation on March 1, 2007. If my memory serves me correctly, I think on or about the 21rst of every month the Treasury starts to authorize VA disability compensation payment for that particular month. So your friend's retro authorization may have been received by the Department of the Treasury after the above mentioned date, and they are going to pay the retro together in one payment with February's monthly compensation. Does this make sense?

Pete,

I hate to break the news to you, but the actual payment of VA benefits doesn't have anything to do with VA, it's done by the Department of the Treasury. Once the rating decision to grant a certain benefit is produced, all the VA does is send notice to the Department of the Treasury authorizing that particular amount. When the actual EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer) or paper check is cut is on the Treasury, not VA!

Vike:

That makes sense now cause I have never had a problem with being paid after Treasury got it. Well when they used to mail the check a couple of times I got it a couple of days late. I blamed that on the Post Office.
