Each year right around your birthday you should have recieved from the SSA a letter showing how much you have paid into Social Security and how much you will draw when you are 62 and 8 months or 65, 66, 67 (not exact) different for each person depending on how old you are.

In this letter it also should state, if you were to become disabled, how much in $$$ you would get. And also if you have paid in enough quarters to qualify for SSDI.

You can also go on line to the SS web site and I believe you can access the info there. ALso you can make an appt. at the local SS office with one of the clerks and they can look everything up and give you a print out.

Payment is based on how much you have paid in. I was told the average pmt right now is about $1200. for an individual. Family benefit is usually double the individual benefit.
