Self Catheterizing Compensable for SMC

Rate this question

Question

Greeting,

I'm receiving 100 percent compensation for prostate cancer I'm also receiving compensation for ED.  I had really bad inconteance issues and I had surgery for an implant, highly recomended it, took me out of depression. After the surgery my urologist has me self catherize 2 to 3 times a day he stated more is better. At times my wife does have to help me when I have insertion problems.  My question, is self catherizing compensable for SMC?   Thanks JBO

Maybe.  Have you applied?  Been denied?

If you sometimes have have your wife's assistance, this sounds like Aid and Attendance, (SMC L) to me.  If I recall the regulations state the "need for the assistance of others" does not need to be "constant" but it does need to be "regular".  And, yes, your spouse or other family member can provide assistance, and you can still get SMC L.

Also possible:  If you have ED, due to prostate cancer, cath, etc.  (service connected), you should be able to get SMC K for loss of use of a reproductive organ.

You will need documentation for all of the above, and this may require a c and p exam.  Or, and IMO.
