Calculate Your Gfr For Renal Health

Question

If anyone needs to find out how severe their renal function is, try this link for the National Kidney Foundation's calculator for figuring the GFR.

http://www.kidney.org/professionals/kdoqi/gfr_calculator.cfm

NKF says, "GFR - glomerular filtration rate is the best test to measure your level of kidney function and determine your stage of kidney disease. Your doctor can calculate it from the results of your blood creatinine test, your age, race, gender and other factors.

The earlier kidney disease is detected, the better the chance of slowing or stopping its progression."

If you want to find out what is normal, you can go here:

http://www.nkdep.nih.gov/professionals/gfr...ors/gfr_faq.htm

and the National Kidney Foundation says that anything ABOVE 60 is OK.

The VA waits till it really gets to a critical stage like end stage renal disease. Than it starts treatment more or less.

Veterans deserve real choice for their health care.
