  • GivingTuesday: A day that encourages people to do good

During GivingTuesday, Nov. 28, VA encourages community organizations and individuals to help support local Veterans through charitable donations or volunteer opportunities. GivingTuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: A day that encourages people to do good. Since then, it has grown into an annual movement inspiring millions of people to give, collaborate and celebrate generosity.

According to Sabrina C. Clark, Center for Development & Civic Engagement director, “GivingTuesday is a global day of radical generosity. For VA, that means spreading the opportunity to contribute to our noble mission through gifts and donations that enhance care and services across VA. GivingTuesday brings awareness to the many ways our communities can honor the sacrifice and service of America’s Veterans.”

Choose the program you want to support

Individuals and organizations can make an online donation to their local VA medical center by making an E-donation. By making a donation online through the site, you would be able to choose the avenue you want to support in areas such as facility holiday activities, homeless Veteran programs, caregiver support, hospice needs or you can donate to a general fund to provide basic necessity items, recreation items or other needs Veterans may request.

Full time and occasional volunteer opportunities are also available by donating time at your local VA medical center, Community Based Outpatient Clinic, Vet Center or national cemetery, to include becoming a virtual volunteer, driving Veterans to their appointments or greeting Veterans, families, caregivers and their survivors at a local VA.

If you have time and a talent you would like to offer to VA through volunteering or you would like to make an online donation to benefit Veterans in your community, learn more. Your support will directly impact the lives of Veterans and will help provide a meaningful holiday experience for them.
