  1. Congrats.

If you are set up for direct deposit just keep checking your bank. Get a username password from your bank and you can check it online. If you want to try to figure out how much it will be, go here:

    http://www.vba.va.go...ates/comp01.htm

Remember, if you are getting retro, you cant use this years rate for 4 years ago..you have to figure each year seperately. It is a good idea to check their math, if I recall Berta said they made a mistake on hers..and guess what..the error was not in her favor. I think she eventually got it corrected.

    70% PTSD

    10% Tinnitus

    All others defered

    Back to 2010

  2. I didn't know we had claims counselors assigned to our claims that you can talk to.. That is some fantastic information. Thanks so much. I will try and call in the morning.

Yeah, they are employed by GA SDVS but work at the ATL VARO. Im sure your claim guy can give you a definitive. If he is away make sure you ask if there is anyone handling his case load meanwhile and maybe that person can answer your questions. Heres the link to the points of contact When you find out who your counselor is you can find his email here:

  3. on 12/8 I wrote IRIS with 2 very simple questions. I guess that's was my mistake. Asking simple questions I mean.

I responded to a 10/27/2010 request by the VA for additional information and medical documents. I replied to the request on 10/28/2010 with all my medical records. I had my C&P on 11/16/2010.

My questions were clear. Has the VA (Atlanta RO) received my response to the 10/27/2010 request by the VA and have they received my C&P. I asked that they tell me the dates they received the documents.

According to IRIS my C&P was received on 11/18/2010 BUT they never received my response for additional information. They said they would contact Atlanta via email to find out something. That was 12/13/2010

So that night I called the 800# and was told by them that my C&P was received on 12/2 (not 11/18 as IRIS told me) and that my response was received on 11/23/2010.

Not hearing anything from IRIS, I called 800# again today. What a bunch of idiots. Now they have no record of my response to the request for additional information and they claim Atlanta doesn't have my C&P.

So, I have no idea if anything is at my RO or not. IT SURE WOULD BE NICE TO GET A STRAIGHT ANSWER from someone at the VA but I guess that will never happen in my lifetime.

Geeeeeez, all I want for Christmas is a straight answer. Guess I will get coal. LOL

Hey youre in GA, we have claims counselors assigned by case # who know more since they are located at the VARO in ATL. Call (404) 929-5345 you will get a receptionist. Tell her you want to contact your claims counselor but you are unsure of who it is. She will tell you then forward you to him. Be aware there a e few, including mine, on vacation at the moment so IDK if youll find anything out by christmas but thats a start.

  4. By "that far" I mean should it go back to SEPT09 since thats when I was discharged or by "within a year of discharge" they mean active only not discharge from service so I only go back to FEB10 since I filed JAN10?

    P.S.

I was diagnosed with PTSD by the VA in OCT09 less than 1 month after my official discharge.

  5. Are you formally diagnosed with service connected PTSD yet?

VA gave us some family therapy over a decade ago.

Unfortunately it often does not work well with PTSD families if the vet has control issues.(which can be due to the PTSD)

I worked at a vet center years ago and families were encouraged to attend some of the sessions we had (some but sure not all) and I only recall one spouse of a veteran ever showing up.

Also our local VAMC here in Bath NY had an independent PTSD spouse group. The woman who started it (wife of PTSD vet)had MSW degree and the VA graciously donated their community room. We would meet during the same time the PTSD Vets group would meet.

VA tried to wiggle in and control some of the meetings but the group kicked them out.

In my opinion families need therapy to deal with PTSD that is done separate from the veteran's therapy and not together. I am a PTSD wife and the problems that spouses have can be overwhelming.

It is no one's fault- it is just how PTSD can affect everyone around the vet. It becomes almost contagious.

Havent recieved the official letter yet but yes 70% PTSD. I dont do group. No offense I just cant handle that. My sig other/ live in fiancee did come to one session (VA gave me a pvt QTC therapist I see every 2 weeks) and it wasnt very productive. She isnt too keen on my therapist who she feels is a little too placative to my sometimes dominant nature. I didnt know if I qualified for even a discount or something for a family therapist not just the ptsd.

  6. I read the VA offers family therapy. My PTSD therapist said we can only discuss the war and my ptsd issues. How do I access Family therapy so we can work on some of the issues my scd's have caused at home with my family? I see a private PTSD spec therapist because VA determined they "lacked the resources to handle my level of treatment at their facilities". Not to mentioned the closest med center is 1 hr. away and the VA clinic locally doesnt offer mental healthcare.

  7. no 1,350 total per month so 13,500 retro to FEB10 right? I was fully honorably discharged in SEPT09 (completed 2nd contract) which was within a yr. from my file date. I was invol. recalled for 9 month and held back from 3rd deployment due to severe complications with my sons birth in OCT08. Will it go back that far since I was in IRR from OCT08 till discharge in SEPT09.

  8. B.S.

Methinks that your "claims counselor" is kinda new at this.......................................just sayin'

"like 1350 I think. 70% no spouse 2 kids. I dont see that needing extra sigs...."

Are you saying that you think you'll be receiving $1350 retro............back to Feb 2010? Total?

  9. Ok here is exactly what rep said if that helps,

".....xxxxxxxxxxxxx is in the final stages of the approval process at the VA Regional Office in xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx. I have been informed that we should have a decision by the end of the month in Mr. xxxxxxxxxxxxx's favor. This approval will be back dated to Feb 2010."

According to my claims counselor at the VARO I have a rating of 70%-PTSD 10%-Gastrointestinal and others 0%-deffered he signed off on it on Friday AM which I assume meant all the necessary signatures were on it and he was just notified.

"Because federal checks are paid at the end of the month, the soonest he will receive any monthly payment is Feb 1, 2011. The retroactive check normally is paid a month or two later."

Thats whats confusing everyone is telling me retro comes around the time of the letter but she is saying something different.

  10. If you are expecting a large amount of retro, they have to send it higher up for approval. The last time I got retro, I saw the pending deposit in my bank account a day before I got the VA letter in the mail.

like 1350 I think. 70% no spouse 2 kids. I dont see that needing extra sigs....

    File date 28JAN10

  11. I would believe it when I get it in black and white! I do hope you get it before the new year.

Way to bust my bubble man lol. so you think it might not be done? This is my first experience with the VA comp system so IDK what to believe.

  12. Just recieved this email, I never even asked her to follow up. Thats awesome. Im lucky to have a rep that cares.

" I just checked with the folks at claims staff and your claim is in the final stages of the rating process. According to my contact, it should be done before the end of the month.

 Your file is on my desk and I am calling them frequently on your claim.

    Cindy"

  13. Oh man, Sat is Christmas and Im sure they are closed Friday so I guess if nothing comes by thursday I can stop hoping lol

    P.S.

So just to be clear when I push 3 on the 1-800# hoping to get financial dept. I may not have gotten finance and it is possible they have the wrong information in regards to what phase its in?

  14. Deposits are out of the hands of the RO or VA facilities. They are handled electronically by a Finance Center. Many deposits are usually received on Saturday because they clear the rolls on Friday for the weekends.

It could be any day. There is no schedule.

  15. I doubt it but you can try. The VA is organic. Things just happen when they happen. You try and pin them down you will be frustrated. They cut checks and rate claims when they get to it.

I ask because i have read that they schedule deposit dates or something for example someone called in and was told dd for thurs. etc. I hope they dont know anything though because I just called and they said its now in authorization but my claims counselor said it was done, now he is on vacation and IDK whats actually going on. Should I not hold mybreath or is it possible it comes before Christmas.

  16. Check your mail box too as DD can take a few weeks sometimes to set up.

"my state claims counselor told me he signed off on it Friday morning." His signature has nothing to do with the authorization signatures.

I wish he had told you what the % was.

He did tell me the %. Is that pertinent info? But him signing off means all the important sigs are on it right? He is the last step before I get it?

  17. I have gotten them on Tues and Wed they come as soon as the VARO releases the authorization for payment you can not begin to guess what date the VA will send out retro checks if you have direct deposit then it will be there if not the check will show up in the mail one day I have gotten the award letter and then the money and then I got the money and then the award letter but they show up within days of each other I hope it show up before Xmas for you but if not they have some great sales right after Xmas

Will the 1-800# know if I get the financial dept?
