  1. I was notified today that my wife a retired 1SG and 60% sc has breast cancer and will have to undergo surgery. We have TriCare Prime and are both employed. Both of us will turn 60 this year. Because of my recent triple bypass surgery her leave hours are almost disminished.

Will VA offer any assistance such as 100% disability after the operation for a number of months? She does not have any service connection for breast cancer however she has had several cysts removed while in the service. She retired with 20 years in Jan 2003.

I was told by my SO at VFW that I will most likely be rated 100% after his reading of my recent C&P. I don't expect that to be of any benefit for my wife - will it?

Thank you all for your assistance.

  2. I was 30% PTSD with DMII 20% and Tinitus and Vitilligo equalling 60%. I asked for a reevaluation based on my most recent volunteer tour in D.C. where I worked in casuality and mortuary affairs.

Plus they had my general medical at the same time where they evaluated both heart attacks and subsequent stint replacement in May 05 (while on active duty) and triple bypass last month (31 May).

I don't know how they will connect my heart problems PTSD or DMII or the other maladies HTN, Neuropathym ED, Major Depression. The doctor wrote PTSD with secondary Major Depression.

  3. Hadit - Berta & Viking 17.

    Excuse my lack of protocal.

In addition I was told I had alcohol problems. Go figure.

I had my c&p hearing - this is the results:

Axis I: PTSD with secondary major depression.

    Axis: II: None identified.

Axis III: Disabetes, broken knuckle, depression, PTSD, plulmonary, cardica, catraracts, HTN, Neuropathy, ED.

Axis IV: strained relationship eith oldest son who has drug and financial problems: indadequate social support: health problems: recently moved and trying to sell old home.

Axis V: Current GAF = 50 - 55 due to PTSD (periods of suiciadla ideatioj or thougts of death, depressed , isolared, flat affect, occasional panic attack, has only one friend but rarely interacts with him, difficulty concentrating, difficulty sleeping w/o medication, anxiety).

I'm not asking a question - just wanted to know what ya'll think.

  4. On the 27th of May I went to the VA Med Center in KC because I thought I was having a heart attack. After an exam and heart cather I was taken to KU Med Center for a triple bypass. Prior to this while I was on active duty I had a heart attack and stint (May 05). The bypass happenend within a year after being released back into retirement status.

The C&P I suppose is for my MI and increase in PTSD. As a side I was diagnosed with DMII, presumtive for my service in RVN.

I don't know if PTSD is primary to MI and heart problems or DMII.

I do not have my treatment records for the bypass I guess I could unbottom my shirt and show the scars.

I'm a little apprehensive about this as I don't know the questions - although the C&P information posted on this site did help a lot!

Let me add that the treatment I received at VA prior to being transferred to KU Med Center was excellent - top notch!

  5. While awaiting my claim on an increase in PTSD, MI and Nueropathy I had a triple bypass (the 24th of May). I have a C&P June 13th.

I'm a federal employee and a retired E-7. Total I have 40 years of federal service.

I am currently 60% disabled. My service officer at VFW thinks when the smokes clears I will be 100%.

Will my military retirement, social security, and federal retirement be penalized if I receive 100% disability? I am not applying for TDUI or Disability Retirement from Federal Service.

I have tried to lead an honest life and paid my way. All I want is what is due and what I feel that I have earned. Although I don't want to be penalized for being honest.

    Any assistance will be appreciated.

    Thank you all at Hadit.

  7. Hi All - I'm writing from te VA medical center KC MO. I went on emergency sick call Sunday. My arm was hurging and my jaw ached. At the VA Med they gave me an EKG and lab work. No abnormablies. They gave me a nitro pill and the pain went away. I was admitted. Monday I had a caurterization. I was told my LAD, Right Cornary and another artey was 99%,89% and 85% blocked. I had surgery yesterday - three bi-passes.

I had a MI while on active duty in May 05 and stint. I have a claim in on that plus increase in PTSD. I have a C&P the 13th of June. Should I address the bi-passes at this time?

Is Heart diseases associated with PTSD or visa-versa? I am 59 and will be 60 in September. I'm presently at 60% total. PTSD, DMII, Tinitus, and skin. Would anyone have any idea if I may get a 100% rating. I'm a 26 year Army Retiree. I'm nogt concernd about UI. If they rate this because of PTSD I will be able to add this to my CRSC packet.

Any info you may offer is appreciated. THANKS VETS!!!

  8. My son was in GW1 with USMC. After serving 4 years he went Army and was medically discharged with a back injury. He served 11 years total. He is rated 60 percent for his back and 70% for PTSD. He was/is hooked on pain medication. He has on several occasions stole medicine from me and his mother. Over the past year or so he stole my credit card once (same name Jr. Sr.) and ran up a $7500 bill at a local casino. Recently he stole a credit card and ran up $400.00. He has been to Topeka Kansas for the PTSD clinic. I have tried my hardest to support him as I am understanding to his maladies. I am not however understanding to his criminal activities. Especailly when he steals from his parents. I just don't get it. I'm a 26 year army vet and I never recall teaching him these values.

Does he need to be arrested? Has anyone else had any experience with their children who are SC for PTSD or hooked on pain meds?

    Thanks.

  9. I called my RO today and asked about my claim(s). I was told thye were at the Active Ratings Board. Can anyone tell me what happens after that? I applied for the disabilities after I was released back to retirement in Jun 06 while on terminal leave. It is coming up on a year now. I mean good grief these medical problems happenend and were diagnosed while I was on active duty.

    JerryO

  10. Berta;

You asked: Did they lump your heart disease into the DMII 60 % award?

No, I had other disabilities prior to the DMII. The heart disease has not been rated yet.

    Are you a lifer?

You bet! 26 years total. 1966 - 1988 and two recalls after my retirement.

Have you looked into any potential you might have for CRDP or CRSC?

Yes I have, thank you for asking, CRSC. I'm waiting on VA's decision on my claims before filing. Particulary increase in PTSD which was initially at 30%, DMII, Heart Attack (MI), and neuropathy. I believe all of these are service and combat connected.

I greatly appreciate your and all of the veterans help and learned advice.

    JerryO

  11. Bertha, Theotherguy, and all other concerned Vets.

I was 40% disabled prior to recall to active duty from retirement. I am now 60% due to DMII.

I was presumptive qualified for DMII after my discharge in Aug 06. I curently have a claim in the system (8 months old) for a heart attack while on active duty with stint (left Vert), hypertension, ED, and an increase in PTSD as I worked Casualtiy and Mortuary Affairs for two years which brought back flash backs, nightmares, et al from Vietnam. So all this is pending.

VA most recently diagnosed me with Chronic Pulmonary Obstructive Disease, left and right lower extremities neorapathy, and possible sleep apnia (sleep study has been requested).

As I understand from all of your concerned and appreciated advice I should go ahead and file prior to my one year date of discharge to have it in the system.

However; if VA states I do have these maladies such as CPOD, neorapathy, and sleep apnia do I still need to go through the filing process or while that be an automatice disability?

    Thank you all so much!

    Jerry O.

  12. Well said!

I would like to echo your sentiments. I was active from Feb 66 to Jun 88. Recalled for Desert Storm (9 months in 91) and Nobel Eagle (Pentagon Aug 04 through Aug 06). I filed for some disabilties (most MI while on active duty but my claim is still being processed).

You put it most succinctly. I don't think any vet is denying our youger troops anything. But we have been on the back burner for far too long.

    Jerry O

  13. I was recently diagnosed at KC MO VA hospital for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease(COPD) and a subsequent sleep study for sleep apnea (sp). I was provided inhalers that I use four times a day.

I have been out of the Army less than a year. I still have a claim pending for MI, hypertension, neuropathy, ED, and increase in PTSD.

If sleep apnea is diagnosed as being what they suspect and I am provided a sleeping/breathing device do I still file for a claim for increase in disability?

Also, should I wait until my outstanding claim is adjudicated before I file a new one? Prior to entering active duty last period as a volunteer I was diagnosed with Gerd and skin cancer. I never claimed this however active duty provided medicine and care for both. I had a skin cancer lision removed recently.

I am 60% and really don't know that much on how to file and such.

    Thanks so much.

    Jerry

  14. I'm scheduled for a AO physical the 18th. My service in RVN was 68-69. I was seen about AO in 91 and was told I was not in an area that AO was sprayed. Since then I guess they admitted it was. I was in I Corps with the 101st. I personally know several leathernecks that were in I Corps that were rated with AO.

Any suggestions on what I should or shouldn't do during the physical - other than buttoning the back of my gown.

    Jerry O

  15. I visited my physc yesterday. She doubled my meds and said she is considering electrical shock threapy. Yet - she indicated that my GAF was 60. I'm 30% for PTSD and filed a claim for an increase due to recent service with Mortuary Affairs.

Now I know that my brain is not quite right but this is not logical to me Mr. Spock.

As always an appreciative veteran of all veterans.

  16. My son served 4 years in the USMC and 7 years Army. He is a Gulf War vet. He hurt his back while with the 101st and was medically discharged. He is rated 100% sc. Back (80%) and PTSD (50%).

My wife and I supported him (forever) for the longest time. Unfortunately he developed a drug addiction to pain medication and we lost several thousand dollars because of his addiction - that is another story.

Since he was recently awarded 100% can any or part of the student loans be forgiven?

    Any assistance is appreciated.

    Jerry

  17. Since I have been waiting since August 06 on a claim for MI and PTSD I asked the Voc Rehab folks if I could go back to school, I was told no.

I was attending college with Voc Rehab prior to recall to active duty. I send a letter to the Voc Rehab and asked if I could start back up. They said no as they seem that I'm too unstable to attend classes.

What is this all about. What direction to I go now? If you reply please type REALLY SLOW as it seems my educational skills have severaly wained over the past two years.

    Jerry O

  18. Thank Hoppy;

I'm seeing a phys if you call it that. I have seen her a total of 40 minutes over the past 8 months. I talk with a guy at the Vet Center here in Kansas City. Other than that I don't have a phys. I will see her again on the 27th of this month and ask her about a new GAF.

  19. You have read my posting. I am presently 60% service connected (Vietnam 68 - 69 Radio Operator). PTSD (30%) Diabetes (20%) Skin Condition Vitilligo (10%), and Tinnitus (10%).

I retired from the Army in 1988 after 22 years. I'm a Vietnam Vet. I was recalled to the Army in 1991 for Desert Storm support and again in Aug 04 through Aug 06 for Iraqi Freedom support - I did not go in country on either of these recalls.

While on active duty at the Pentagon I worked in Casualty and Mortuary Affairs. I was responsible for extracting certain items out of all the casulty reports and on several occassions I had to go to the Dover mortuary. I routinely went to Ft. Mead and oversee the handling of the personal effects of deceased and wounded Soldiers and Marines.

I suffered a heart attack and had a stent replacement while on active duty. I have filed for the MI. I would like to file for an increase in PTSD as I am going thorugh a lot of trauma right now. I'm seeing a VA phys and on anti depressents. Meds aren't working just making me sleepy. I'm not at the lock and load point but I'm very irretable.

What steps should I take? Should I go through my VFW rep? I'm just confused right now and a little on edge. Any assistance is appreciated.

    Thank you.

    Jerry

  20. How is your blood pressure now vs then - was your heart attack due to your military service - you said you had a stint replaced? How is it that the Army recalled a disabled veteran - one with a service connected disability? Any benefit you claim will be scrutinized by the VA.

I take blood pressure meds now. I didn't have hight blood presurre going back in. I retired in 1988 and was recalled in 1991 and the last time Aug 04 through Aug 06. The heart attack and stint replacement happend while I was on active duty. I had disability for PTSD, Skin disorder and tinnitus prior to recall. I don't know why they would scrtinize an unassociated problem - but then again I have been wrong before. I did file for and received disability for diabetes since I an a vietnam vet and was awarded 20%. I'm 60% now. I will be filing in addition to the heart attack, PTSD increase as I believe it is secondary to my heart attack and some other illness associated with diabetes. Have you heard of anyone filing claims after recall?

    Thanks.

    Jerry
