I was diagnosed with PTSD and at the time I was drinking a fifth a day. I told the evaluator I thought I drank to much and was trying to fix that on my own, they offered me any help I needed and it didn't effect my status

I believe that "self medicating" is part of symptomology, so if anything, it may bolster your claim. Others in here with more knowledge will surely give you some more information, but don't worry too much. It sounds like you were honest and gave the examiner the full picture of your condition.

I had my c&p exam last week for PTSD. While in the questioning process the QTC examineer asked if I used any drugs or alcohol. I stated that after my conditions started I used alcohol heavily for a month or two but quit and no longer drink. Will this affect my claim?
