Hello all-just starting my VA journey. I have been having problems the last couple of months with ankle and went to a private doctor and he was in shock when he saw the x-rays. Part of my tibia bone is missing, I have bone fragments loose in my ankle and I have major athritis in my ankle. He wants to do surgery-now. After being out of USMC for 22 years I sent off for my service medical records and this is the same ankle that is documented (7 different dates) for major swelling, pain and turning black and blue after I fell off a 30 ft platform in Okinawa. They thought it was a bad sprain---but after 6 visits to sick call over 6 weeks they decided to x-ray ankle. They found the chip fracture and put me in a cast with crutches. This did help the swelling and pain. It did start to heal.
But now 22 years later I am having major problems with pain, swelling and ROM. I have great insurance with the company I work for and I have been to 2 different orthopedic doctors and 1 foot and ankle doctor who all say MY ANKLE IS SCREWED!
I have some other health problems that I think are related
1) Sore knees
2) Cannot get good sleep at night
3) Overweight from not being able to exercise
I have turned in my paperwork for my ankle claim-----do I wait untill I get that settled before I pursue this other stuff?
Thanks for the help
