Wife Needs Cancer Surgery

Question

I was notified today that my wife a retired 1SG and 60% sc has breast cancer and will have to undergo surgery. We have TriCare Prime and are both employed. Both of us will turn 60 this year. Because of my recent triple bypass surgery her leave hours are almost disminished.

Will VA offer any assistance such as 100% disability after the operation for a number of months? She does not have any service connection for breast cancer however she has had several cysts removed while in the service. She retired with 20 years in Jan 2003.

I was told by my SO at VFW that I will most likely be rated 100% after his reading of my recent C&P. I don't expect that to be of any benefit for my wife - will it?

Thank you all for your assistance.

Jerry o,

I'm not sure on this, but if your wife is 60% SC and now with the breast cancer and the surgery and I am sure chemotherapy and radiation. She will most likely be unable to work. I think you should file for TDIU. That will give her 100% at least unil you guys are through this. Then she could either go throgh re-hab, or they may re-evaluated once she is through the cancer treatment.

I hope someone else will jump in on this and give their opinion.
