I'm a city phone tech, but ended up doing pole-climbing work in sub-zero, rural Vermont. Finding addresses was difficult due to lack of street signs and numbers; people would say "Go to the row of 8 mailboxes where the middle one is painted orange. Turn left where the old Ford truck is up on blocks...etc" Down a snowy farm road I was surprised to see a handmade sign so took a closer look. It read, "Dedicated to (soldier's name) KIA Vietnam (Date) '" The cost of war had been felt in this beautiful, little community. Still brings tears to my eyes.
