Recently Awarded For Sleep Apnea; Do I Claim Previous Supplies?

Rate this question

Question

I was recently approved for Sleep Apnea backdated to my discharge date of almost 4 years ago. I use Tricare overseas and am registered within the VA foreign benefits program.

Should I / Can I claim the purchase of the CPAP machine and supplies (my Tricare cost-share portion) over the years? Do I continue to get my CPAP supplies through Tricare since I live overseas, or have the hospital providing the supplies bill the VA directly?

Thus far, I am getting all of my medications for VA accepted disabilities through Tricare and nothing through the VA perhaps because I live overseas but this bills the costs from another DOD pot of money.

What is the norm for people in my situation?

Thank you,

Joe

You can try, but I have not seen it happen. I got "back copayments" for the time I was charged VA copayments until the effective date of my rating, but this was at the VAMC, and dont expect tricare to do the same.

I would LOVE to have Tricare/Champva..and not have to go to the VA, that is, I would love to trade places with you. You can wait in line at the VA, and I will use your tricare at a private facility and pay the copay. I would gladly pay the Champva copayments to have the ability to go to any doc and not have to go to the VA. The copays are not much. I find it interesting the VA gives superior health care to my wife. She chooses whether to go to the VA, or use her champva at a private medical facility. I do not get that choice..its the VA way or the hiway.
