Stand-Down for Homeless Veterans Scheduled
The Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans Association, a national, not-for-profit veterans’ advocacy organization, is sponsoring its Second Annual Stand-Down in the lower Hudson Valley region of New York.
A Stand-Down is an event that provides services to homeless and at-risk veterans of all wars and
all branches of the US Armed Forces.
Scheduled for September 12 and 13, 2013, The Tri-County Stand-Down (Ulster, Orange, and Sullivan Counties) is an outdoor event once again hosted by the Town of Wawarsing, NY at Lippmann Memorial Park.
The following services are planned for both male and female veterans:
General Medical Screening by VA Health providers
Eye examinations and Haircuts
Access to Mental Health Services
Veteran Housing information
Local employment information
New clothing for men and women
Information related to counseling for physical and mental health issues
Access to Applications for standard Veteran Benefits
Local transportation from the three county regions to Wawarsing will be available at no cost to the veterans.
Veterans must show valid identification to be eligible for the services offered.
Preparation and execution of the Tri-County Stand Down event is partially funded by a United States Department of Labor grant awarded to the Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans Association.
The percentage of the total costs of the project financed by a grant award (#SD-24845-13-60-5-8) from the US Department of Labor’s Veterans’ Employment and Training Service amounting to $10,000 is about twenty-six percent (26%) of the total project cost. The remainder will be covered by non-governmental and community-based sources throughout the Catskills Region.
